I have a 096 Radiator for my Six Pack Challenger and it's is in excellent condition but needs a new core.

I know the prices have gone up A LOT, but what is the gong rate I should be expecting ?

I live just North of Dallas and I just received a quote for $900.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

X 2. Also be aware that not all cores are equally efficient. Go with Glen Ray twocents

I've seen people quoted 800-$1,000 from Glenn Ray. A local shop wouldn't be too far behind his prices. I've seen $600-$800 depending on location.

I suppose that's about right. Thanks

I called Glen Ray 2 weeks ago and I'm already on his list for a new one, but I have an original 956 and it eventually needs to be restored.
I was just curious what the going rate is around the country.

Thanks
Mike

any more, a guy needing a radiator re-cored, might just as well use glen ray.
the only shop around here is a place that works primarily on semi's and heavy equipment, and prices accordingly, often way more than having glen ray work done.
plus, it only cares about function, so slobbery solder joints are the norm, and tanks are not handled with any kind of care. often coming back with more dents than they started with.
for a ton of years, there was a shop just a couple houses up the side street from me, that everyone [and i mean everyone !] took their radiators to because he knew the trade well, and it showed in his work.
when he retired, his one boy took over the shop, moved it out of town, and it slowly died and closed up because the work just wasn't the same.
the only options around now for anyone wanting a radiator in these parts, is glen ray, or buy a reproduction or cross flow replacement.
beer

So seems like $1,000 with shipping both ways.
Guessing doesn't matter whether 318 or hemi.
Another reason why hobby has grown out of reach for many.

no offense but had to comment, Quality costs $$ and Glen Ray IMO is unequalled. I went through a fiasco several years back on a customer's 22" equipped R/T that cost me more time and money than I wanted to total up. And you guessed it, it was a heating issue.
All temp measurements were being taken with a laboratory grade digital meter and type k thermocouple's
New core from a local shop that does outstanding work (but he skipped the chapter on thermal efficiency of cores),
freshly rebuilt motor,
block check - negative,
Water pump- negative
Pulley ratios- Stock
Fan - Stock
Restricted exhaust - negative
Have heads rechecked by another shop- negative
Pull engine, remove freeze plugs, find 2 or 3 inside block. AH HAH! Remove errant plugs, reinstall motor, NO Change frown
Pull engine again send to other shop, complete teardown / rebuild again, sonic check bores (only.030 but?) reinstall and Same Sh-t realmad
Finally call Glen Ray, he listens to my sob story, says send me the radiator if it does not fix your issue, I will fly down to assist. If we can' resolve the issue, you owe me NOTHING! OK, Your on and I'll take that bet.
2weeks or so later the radiator is reinstalled and POOF!!!! the heating issue is GONE!
That was about 10 years ago and per the owner it has never gone above 190 under any conditions including parades on 95 degree day etc.
I can't remember the cost of Glen ray's radiator but If I had paid 10 or 20X I would have been way ahead $$ wise
He has since done a few other "problem" vehicles with the same success twocents beer

BTW: The owner later told me the problem had plagued the car since he owned it (~15 years) shock

Was the Glen Ray core:

  • higher fin count ?
  • higher tubes/inch density (more cooling tubes) ?

I agree about quality/$$, but with dwindling rad. shops these days, that price will become the "norm".
Same can be said about paint/body shops not doing classic cars, except the "expert few".
Lots of entry level hobbyist can't afford these prices for non-high-dollar cars.
Have say 50-70K to spent on a performance car? Restore a 73 318 car or just buy a newer challenger/charger/etc.
