This information is several months old, but is news to me and I suspect to others too. Think what this 9,000lb behemoth will do to a compact car in the inevitable collision.

"The massive electric pickup truck made some headlines these days because of its enormous weight. It already had raised concerns from safety specialists frightened with what a 9,063 pounds (4,103 kilograms) accelerating from 0 to 60 mph (97 kph) in 3 seconds could represent in traffic. Thanks to a document submitted to EPA, we learned that this is not the only absurd number the Hummer EV presents.

The battery pack alone weighs 2,923 lb (1,326 kg). It has a usable capacity of 212.7 kWh. Car and Driver calculated its gross capacity, and that’s 246.8 kWh. We have already mentioned it weighs as much as compact cars such as the Toyota Corolla (1,295 kg for the 2-liter, or 2,855 lb) or the Hyundai Elantra (1,236 kg, or 2,725 lb).

^^^ for the Posers, Stumpy.

Geez, I've owned whole cars that weighed less than just the battery pack for that penile extender...

My big block factory five cobra weighs 2500lbs. Over 400 lbs less than that battery pack.

Keep things in perspective, my buddy's diesel 2015 Ford pickup weighs well over 9,000 lbs. The biggest concern is not the weight but how fast it can accelerate.

Getting 9,000 lbs moving that fast, that quick, has got to tickle the go fast brain sensors, but its also going to be a real issue with the poor driver quality base.

Just think what that super fast acceleration is going to look like with that rush hour fool that zigzags through traffic to get a few car lengths ahead from where he was before.

Yep. All EVs will be heavy. Lithium batteries are heavy! Brushless motors make tons of power. Play with RC cars... I have some 1/10th scale stuff that runs on 12 volt lithium polymer packs.VERY much like the new EVs. Batteries are heavy and the cars are VERY fast. I have a couple cars that will go well over 60mph and there are guys going well over 160 mph!

Typical GM, they made it just as dumb as the last hummer. Should EV's not be as light and aerodynamic as possible? Acceleration is one thing, but cruising at highway speeds chews up range big time. I still dont see these things hitting critical mass until solid state batterries are being used in them (light, very fast charging, dont catch fire and triple/quadruple the range)

Doesn't really matter if 9,000 or 15,000.
It will just be a "toy" for the Elites.

Should the large tax rebate incentives
taper off for vehicles that are
obviously too heavy
AND too expensive?

I would suggest that vehicles that weigh over 6000 lbs and cost over $60,000
are “moving in the wrong direction”
and should not qualify for tax incentives.

Already the “greenies” are saying that the tiny rubber/carbon black particles from tire wear are
“terrible lung killer pollution.”
PM 2.5 is the new buzz word.

In the not too distant future
some old bridge is going to fail on an interstate highway,
when “by chance”
there are too many heavy battery cars PLUS too many heavily loaded commercial trucks.

And then there's stopping the thing:

"Reining in five tons of GMC might require an assist from a runaway-truck ramp. The mondo EV's 70-mph stopping distance, 211 feet, is on the long end even for a heavy-duty truck, and stopping from 100 mph requires 504 feet. Testers noted heavy brake fade, so think twice before entering your Hummer EV in our next Lighting Lap event. "

Yeah, stopping all that weight is something of concern.
I used to think my Dually - at 5500 lbs empty - was a porker...

Compared to an 80,000 lb semi or a 26,000 delivery truck which are much more common?

Just that much more carnage. But in this case, is totally avoidable. Even the car mags question the wisdom of this monstrosity.

Guys...it's GM. That is all you need to know. They have never been able to engineer themselves out of a paper bag. Heck, they can't make a steering column without killing people.

Never, ever argue with an IDIOT. They will drag you to their level and then beat you with their years of experience

Inattentive drivers, soccer moms don't usually drive big rigs.

Although I've seen some interesting semi driver video...

Gonna put a lot more hurt on the roads that ICE vehicles will be expected to pick up the tab for in higher gas taxes while electric vehicles may or may not pay a very small fee at registration as a token of their appreciation for the roads built by ICE powered cars.

I am not causing global warming, I am just trying to hold off a impending Ice Age!
