I wanting to install a better Transmission cooler. Last race I did not get to run the final because I got the trans hot and It blew fluid out the front seal. I have been looking at something like this https://www.summitracing.com/parts/der-13900 https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/der-13900_w.jpg

My father in law uses the B&M ones on his fords. He hasn't had any issues. What style cooler are you currently using and how hot was the trans? I switched from the tube and fin style to a plate style and my trans runs alot cooler now. With the probe in the pan it rarely goes over 200. I'm footbraking though too.

That looks similar to a b&m super cooler. Works great. Mount it up front if possible.

that cooler type you have is meant to be mounted along the frame rail - I have never had any luck with those - the fan style like you listed works good - I would also switch to a full synthetic ATF if you are going rounds - and get a blower fan to cool off the trans between rounds - as most of the heat will be held in the converter as it sits between rounds

Get and carry a spare fan...

I would be willing to bet if you just simply put a trans cooler on with no fan, and mounted it up front like your current cooler is mounted, when you run the radiator fan, it will also help keep the trans temp down. If you are going to go with a fan + trans cooler, then a Jones pump would be more beneficial so when the car is off you can run the fan and jones pump at the same time, which will cycle the trans fluid instead of just cooling the trans fluid that is in the cooler.

I have a simple trans cooler like in the summit link, but no fan. Hottest my trans ever got was 210, and that was after 9 rounds, and round robin racing from the 5th round on.

I also agree if you have a problem with trans temp in round robin rounds, a synthetic fluid would benefit you, or a semi synthetic.

I use a B&M stacked plate cooler in front of the radiator. I street drive and have hot lapped before and never see over 185 in the pan. I have seen 200 in the pan once and that was during a long 2 hour traffic crawl, in that case I think the only fluid in the car that wasn't 200* was the gear oil in the Dana.

We use the Derale coolers in all our cars. In the dragster it is located inside the body and trans never gets hot really. In door cars we usually place them at the back of the car as far back as we can. We also started using Transynd trans fluid a few years and that has dropped trans temps significantly.
