i am thinking of selling a few heavy items(block, crank, pistons and rods). if i do, i would deliver/meet within 200 miles of my home zip code for free, if i get my asking price or reasonable offer. after that distance is covered, what would be a reasonable delivery fee/charge to finish delivery? per mile or for fuel based on 15.5 mpg? not wanting to rob a buyer(i don't even have it listed yet). truck is 4 dr ram, 5.7 hemi that gets approx 15.5 mpg now. tia. using your quoted MPG and the distance traveled to and from with allowance for food and lodging if needed should be pretty easy to calculate. Without a known distance it's hard to give a decent answer. I would encourage to check fuel prices along your route using gas Buddy as they can vary quite a bit state to state. A couple of other thoughts would be to have the buyer meet you halfway paying your added expenses beyond the quoted 200 miles. Or see if one of our car transport guys might be going by and can make a few extra bucks

I take parts all over the country if they are reasonably on my route, do it all the time. If it is right on my route typically $150-200 is what I charge, if it is way outside my route then I charge the difference with my normal rate or something I believe is reasonable to get the job done. It is ALWAYS much cheaper then what a shipper charge would be UPS, Fed Ex, or USPS.

It’s more than gas. Wear and tear on your truck is a real thing. You could look up the irs tax deduction per mile if you want a bare minimum idea of what to charge. I haven’t seen that one in a few years since I no longer use the deduction.
I want my fair share

That is how I run my business, per mile rate that the Gubmint sets is what my CPA uses and the current rate is 58.5 cents per mile... https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-issues-standard-mileage-rates-for-2022

It’s 0.62 or 0.625 now. Forget which.

at 15mpg with 6.00 diesel, that is .40/mile just in fuel. So you charge the going rate, but do you get to write off the fuel cost lodging, maintenance etc ? the reason I ask is the above quote personal moving no. as a business, yes on lodging. Fuel and maint is included in teh per mile IRS rate if using that approach.

Never got down to that level with my CPA, there ARE standard deductions however...
