Hey all. I replaced my battery the other day and I thought that was my only issue. Well it appears it is now overcharging as I noticed the dash gauge was over to the right more than usual. I checked it while running and the voltage was around 14.4-14.5 volts at idle. I didn`t check it at a higher engine speed. I also assume that was why the battery failed without warning. I did have a check engine light on after I put in the new battery, No codes prior. The code was Code P1DF3. I turned off the light and I haven`t had the light come back on yet. I checked online and thought maybe the alternator but it says the ECM controls the charging. Do I need to go to the dealer for the new ECM if it is bad or do I have any other options. I assume I can`t replace it myself as the computer would have to be programmed? Any help is appreciated.

Those voltages aren't out of line for a battery that needs charged. What was the date code on the new battery?

I have to check the date. I have driven the truck for a couple days . Wouldn`t the battery have been charged by now.

OK, Went out and checked. The battery has padded cover that hides the sides of the battery. No date on top , just a small sticker that says Battery made in Spain? The resting voltage is 12.65

If it was overcharging it would also trip a fault code. The voltages you posted sitting and running are normal.

OK, good to hear. No fault codes. I was noting the gauge and it usually sits almost dead center so I was worried when I saw it more to the right than usual.

Don't always assume you got a good battery, have it checked... twocents
