I usually have one or two a year and the pest control guy usually gets them. But this year there seems to be more of them and harder to get rid of. Looking online many different suggestions from gasser sticks which are basically a short term road flare, to baits, poisons, flooding the tunnels and using a mower exhaust to gas the tunnels and believe it or not Juicy fruit gum . Wondering if there's any experiences here with the above methods. I'm on an acreage and there is plenty of ground that i could care less about but when the SOB's start approaching the lawn they need to be dealt with. In the past I have flattened the area and watched it closely for new activity. Once I establish where that is I used a variety of methods some that seemed to work better than others, but none I could say were 100%. I did have 1 pest control guy that would send his father out that lived close by. He would nail them with a worm type bait the first time every time. he did tell me one had to be licensed to get the bait he was using. Unfortunately the son went out of business and I didn't think to get his fathers name or number I am hoping for real world experiences with any of the above methods. I really prefer a once and done method if there is such a thing.

I live on 2 acres and moles are a pain in the butt around here especially if you have a neighbor who won't address his moles. They end up coming into my yard. I've tried just about everything over the years to eradicate the moles. The only thing I finally found that absolutely works every time is the Tomcat plastic worms. You have to follow the instructions, like the gloves to keep the human scent off the worms etc. I cut them in half to get twice the amount of bait. Use a wooden dowel rod to punch the holes into the tunnels, drop the bait in and then cover it up. Both Lowes and HD carry them around here.

caddy shack ! HAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!! how did you guess ? the link you posted reminded me of one time, years and years [and lots more years] ago, i was at a family reunion at my grandma and grandpa's house. which was neighboring the house i grew up in. as was customary after a big lunch, it was "baseball" time. i chased a ball that was hit, and it landed next to grannie's prized rose bush "fence" that ran along side the road past the house. when i got there, i noticed a HUGE paper nest of wasps in the roses ! it was somewhere around two feet in diameter ! when i told the "adults" about this, grandpa and the uncles got to planning.......... it was decided that since this was daylight [early afternoon] the best plan of attack would be at night. this left plenty of time to consume "adult beverages" while planning the attack, and waiting for dusk to arrive............ at the appropriate time, gramps got a section of tv antennae pole, about 10-12ft long. he hiked that up to the bee's nest on the road side, while my old man and uncles got a 5 gallon gas can [and of course, "adult beverages"] and followed gramps to the "enemies" encampment. with gramps jamming the antennae pole into the nest, the gas can was emptied into the pole, ending in the "enemies" lair ! with a trail of gas on the ground for a fuse, [and of course, not a very long one] a match was struck................. such a GLORIOUS EXPLOSION and FIREBALL i had never seen in my young life ! it was just like the war movies on tv, with the enemy planes, wings on fire, death spiraling to the ground ! gramps, my old man, and my uncles let out a victory cheer, and more "adult beverages" were passed around in triumph ! in the morning, grannie was REALLY PI$$ED ! it seems there was now a HUGE HOLE in her prized rose fence ! she tore into my old man, my uncles, and grandpa ! when they burst into laughter, that made grannie even madder ! this story is still told around the campfire from time to time, and is an important part of our family history...............

I don't usually share this because the environmentalists would frown on me. BUT I tried everything and every trap but this one was a smart mole. Finally after tramping down his tunnel and waiting to see where he was active I opened up an access hole to his tunnel and poured about a pint of gasoline in the hole and covered it up. Not a trace of him from that point on. But don't light it you may blow yourself up.

my brother and i tried the gasoline in the hole trick with a bees nest one time. we only used about 3 gallons, but left a long trail to light. when it went off, there was a huge HA-WAHUUUUMPH ! the ground in front of us puffed up about 6 inches, and a big fireball shot out of the hole ! luckily, we were far enough away to not get our eyebrows singed. however, no flaming bees for our entertainment were seen. the next day, there were a few flying around the hole, which was a "little" larger than before, but they didn't want to venture inside. the day after, none were to be seen, and that was the last of that fun. kinda' disappointing, when compared to the "rose bush fence" caper............

A follow up, Per those I've talked to at TSC and others, as well as the store shelves , Apparently I'm not alone. They are blaming it on the unsually dry dry summer ? The best recommendations I have found so far is Valipril (not available locally) or Tomcat bait which has good reviews and the same amount of juice. Don't know but every one I've talked to says Valipril. Do wear gloves when touching the bait as they purportedly will detect your scent and avoid it and as previously mentioned follow the directions closely. On tip i found useful was to use a toothpick to lift the worms out of the tray or at least get one end started. What has worked extremely well if you have the time, push the mounds down and then monitor the area every ½ hour or as soon as possible after doing so. This is to locate the little b-stard(s) when dealing with a larger area and multiple tunnels. We have actually caught a few using this method, digging away actually watching the ground move 😉 AWESOME!!! I made a ¾ or 1" PVC boring tool tapering the end to to a cone. This opens the tunnel capturing the dirt while doing so. I open the tunnel behind where they are digging, And promptly insert a gasser stick then cover the hole. Works really well but is a bit time consuming due to the monitoring part. The Revenge brand gassers or those you insert the fuse into seem to put out a lot more smoke and gas than the pre fused ones. I will have to try the gas trick as wee have a few to get yet Definitely a bumper crop this year
