I have a 528 hemi that I previously installed in my cuda with the Schumacher conversion mounts, but I was never happy with how the engine sat in the car. The engine sat pretty high and the passenger side valve cover was pressed against the inner fender and the blower motor. I ended up sending my k member to al debevec for the hemi conversion. However, I just got it back together and the valve cover still hits the inner fender and the blower motor, but now it sits even higher to the point that the fan blade is at the top of the radiator. I bought the poly mounts from Mancini racing, and on the drivers side where the mount would go to the k member, there is about a 1/4" gap from it seating all the way. Is this normal or is there something else that I'm missing? I'll try to post some pictures of the issues.

Here's the gap between the drivers side engine bracket and the insulator on the motor mount. It was hard to get a good picture of this.

Here's how the engine sits.

I worked on a hemi E-body a couple of years ago. I don't remember exactly what we did, but the passenger side mount was installed incorrectly. Something about different holes in the k-member or steel mount. Once we got it in the right way everything sat correctly. So, take a close look at every mounting hole and different ways to fit it. Also look for headers or something preventing the engine from sitting down all the way.

I built and installed an aluminum Indy block, stage five heads and valve covers in a 70 Cuda ac car. I used the Shumaker mounts. Yes it’s close for sure but it fit. My customer provided the mounts and there was a problem with the pass side mount and we had to get another one for some reason. Too long ago for me to remember the details buts it’s in now. I’ve got pictures on my phone I’ll post.

It's hard to tell what is going on in that picture but there shouldn't be a gap.

How much was that conversion by Al vs. just buying a K from say Megaparts , or finding an original ?

running up my post count some more .

Al used to make them for Megaparts. On my Charger I had a header issue and TTI blamed Als kframe conversion. I bought an original cherry hemi K and there was no difference. Als work is spot on. TTI was my problem. I did get a special Indy valve cover for clearance on the right side inner fender.

I put an Indy block in a car one time and it was crooked. So I bought another K-member, brackets and insulators. Still crooked. So I called Russ. Of course he said the block is machined the same as stock. But now I wonder.

I'm using a world aluminum block. I'll try to get a better picture of the drivers side mount. The mount bottoms out on the k member, which is preventing the insulator part of the mount from sitting flush. The strange part though is that the bolt that attaches that mount to the k member lines up perfectly with the little opening in the k member where it slides through. If the mount was to sit flush, I'm not sure if the bolt would line up with the opening where you would tighten it from.

A lot of different stuff here. Al did K frame, did he provide the mount brackets and insulator also? E body is different than B body. You ordered a E body conversion? If you had access to an orig block you could fit the block and size up how an orig fits. Compared to your block.

I had a customers car (69 Charger) a few years back with a MF front end kit and a Hemi installed by someone else. It had the same issues. One could drive a greyhound bus through the L side but the right was hitting in a nmber of areas. The shock tower was an ingenious way of limiting the torque movement under WOT LOL whistling
It had spool type insulators which MF said they never used shruggy

After much communication with magnum force and on line research I established that the mounts in the car were conversion mounts from Schumacher part # BCEH. The mounts were intended to be used when swapping a hemi into a 66-72 B Body with a stock crossmember. MF says they have never offered anything but solid mounts. OK so bubba did his thing.
Further analysis revealed that due to only 2 mounting points, the frame bracket was able to pivoting. A solution was devised that would add a third mounting point to the frame bracket thereby eliminating the pivoting. The required parts were fabricated, and welded into place. The parts were trial fit several times to get the motor level with adequate clearance. From my notes it appears as though the mounting tabs were moved or holes in the block mount were slotted the allow better alignment during the process. To help understand the pictures, the one bracket with 3 mounting holes bolted to the motor and the protruding tabs over the spool mount. The other bracket bolted to the MF K frame.
When assembled it was able to pivot on the two bolts dropping the R side down.
hope this is some help beer

He supplied the mounting brackets and the insulators, however the insulators were defective, so I just ordered the poly loc style mounts and Al said that they should be fine.

No problems mounting up my Hemi. However, I do have a special rocker cover that Indy offers that has extra shock tower clearance cast into it. Hard to see in the engine picture but if you look closely you can see the steps in the center of the cover.

Here's a better picture of the gap between the drivers side insulator and the k membee.

if it were mine, and the engine fit good otherwise, i would just make up a plate to sandwich between the mount cushion and the k member pad. paint, done.

If that bolt is thru the hole and thru the otherside of the mount then I'm going to say that insulator is the problem.

Ad me to the ... put a spacer between the mount and the K .
