Does anyone happen to know what the stock 68 Barracuda bumpers weigh? I have to put my fat fish on a diet and this is one area of focus. The aftermarket chrome bumpers only weigh 26lbs, of course fiberglass is lighter. I am afraid to go fiberglass because it is a street car, and I am afraid my big azz will slide out from under it and pull up on a fiberglass bumper out of habit and break it.

26lbs with brackets? Have you checked with Lingenfelter Brackets to see if he has his thicker aluminum ones for your car?

26lbs without the brackets, I have an email into Lingenfelter about how much weight their brackets can support.

I have seen the aftermarket bumpers, they are for sure less robust than the stock ones. I am just curious how much weight that adds up to. I would rather not pull one of mine off to weigh, but
it I will if no one has an answer for me haha.

Buddy of mine put a glass one on his 68. I just texted him to see if he weighed the stock one.

I did here back from Lingenfelter and they do offer a .190 aluminum bracket for steel bumpers.

I bought the Lingenfelter kit for my fiberglass front bumper years ago. I have the chrome bumper wrapped up in the barn. I think I will buy a set of the stronger brackets.
I will weigh the chrome bumper without the steel brackets and let you know.

Sorry for the wait. I weighed it on a digital scale, no brackets and no bolts. 14lbs. For what it’s worth, it has been re chromed once.

That's great news, thanks for checking. I assumed with the fiberglass ones being 8-10 lbs the stock ones were way heavier.

The repop ones AMD sells show to be 20-26lbs. The ones I have seen were way floppier than stock stuff.

My fiberglass bumper weighs only 4 lbs. and it’s very sturdy.

Something to offer. The stock brackets weigh 15.5 lbs for the fronts. I made carbon fiber ones that came in at a little under 4lbs. They are strong enough to lean on the bumper, but I try not to. Only installed them three races ago, but have no concerns on them holding the aftermarket steel bumper on the car. I can’t run a fiberglass bumper, but If you do, I found that the chrome vinyl wrap material does a good job at simulating chrome. My carbon brackets came in at .250” thick and the steel are 3/8”? If you are chasing et yes, but racket car……. That weight is way out front and pretty low.

My 64 has carbon fiber brackets with the factory steel bumpers. The front bumper is 23lbs, rear 26lbs. The total weight for all the brackets is 2.6lbs. Going on 11 years.
