I do believe that on many, or all, you need the key to remove it all the way out.

I recall people using a paperclip on these to get them out. Search found this;

Thanks. I experienced all of the negatives too. I’ll try the paper clip next.

It is pretty easy to stick a flat screwdriver into the chrome knob and give it a slight pry to the side. The knob will pop off allowing you to remove it. Re-install using a vice and a socket to press it on. Done this many times with success.

Once the chrome knob is removed you are saying the lock assy. can then be removed from the glove box door?

Yes....just take out the two screws from rear of lock.

That video is good. I had to do this, but was so long ago forgot exactly, but I do remember dropping the first latch and pulling out partially, then systematicity depressing the others one by one until I had it out. If you have access to the mopar key kit you can figure out your key number, and set it to the trunk key with the appropriate pins from the kit. Best done on a bench with the door on the bench with good light and some pins/picks to work the latches down.

The best way is to contact a mobile locksmithto take it out and install the new glove box lock.
