But being in the CE biz selling both the Android(Samsung & LG) and Apple phones, give an inexperienced phone user either 1 and watch which one comes up the fastest for understanding how to use its features...

I have been using a Samsung Convoy flip since 2018.
I have zero experience with smart phones.
Would the iPhone SE be a good start?

A smart iPhone does lot of things..
My suggestion would be to go to an Apple store and get the live demo.
I have been using an iPhone for >10 years and can't do without it..

Is there a modern version of this phone? Not the joke (although it IS a real phone) I posted earlier. Dad despises computers and "smart" phones, claims to be unable to learn them, NOT true, REFUSES to learn. Anyway, knew about jitterbugs, truly awful reviews and battery life. He wants a plain dumb flip phone, consumer cellular no longer offers one, any suggestions? Needs to be GSM network.

Samsung seems to have quit the flips
Kyocera Dura looks like the highest rated now

I’ve owned them all I think, but the iPhone is my choice going forward.

I have tried iPhone, and a multitude of droids including Motorola, LG, and several of the different big dollar Samsung things. Now I am using a cheap pixel 3AXL. So far it is outlasted all the rest of them and is by far the best phone I've ever had It is so much better than the galaxies that I had, more stable, more reliable, more user-friendly, great battery life. I would recommend it.
