Did anything ever get "revealed" about the supposed Chysler sanctioned red A11 one of 3 '70 Daytona?

The short version is......

That the 1970 Daytonas mentioned were faked.

20 year-old thread? Can someone please find the old Waffle House thread? That was the funniest stuff I have EVER read anywhere. A perfect blend of stories from various members - it was epic! I was laughing my a$$ off! I really wish I would have copied & saved all of it.

I must have been living under a rock during this time period. But a comment in one of Greg Ward's posts caught my eye "But now, and read this carefully, Chrysler put out a bulliten on this, outlying how the dealer shold order their "platform" from which to build their Daytona." Anybody got a copy of this bulletin?

What were the other two colors? Was this one (purple) one of them?

Been loving that car since I first seen it in a magazine in the mid 1980's.

I am currently building a replica of this purple car out of a 70 plum crazy purple Charger R/T.

Project is in the works.

And yes it will have a factory electric sunroof! Which I wouldn't have in my hands without the help of Mr Rhinodart!

I'd take that purple 70, swap in a 6.4, add some 15" Magnums, and drive it all over the place!

This car will have the new Dynacorn magnum 500 billet wheels, but it will be powered by a 70 HP 2 440 Sixpack engine, an 18 spline Hemi 4 speed transmission and a Dana 60 rear axle, just like the original 70 purple Daytona Charger was. Right now it kinda looks like the Joe Dirt Daytona! Lol

My opinion on the 70 Daytona cars is a bit different than most. The green car definitely had factory involvement. The car was photographed at Hamtramck in late 1969,wearing a dealer plate issued to Chrysler, and was put on an advertising poster with the Chrysler logo clearly on it. Do I believe that anyone could order a factory sanctioned 70 Daytona Charger, no. There were still plenty of 69 Daytona Chargers still sitting on the dealer lots at the time to accommodate anyone wanting to buy one. I believe that the green car was built to be a factory show car,like the Supercharger and the Diamante. The green 70 Daytona Charger was seen in a photo at a Chrysler event surrounded by other New Dodge high performance cars,and factory sponsored race cars in 1970. An event for Dodge similar to what Plymouth did with the Rapid Transit show cars. It is my belief that the purple 70 Daytona Charger was built by the same custom shop that built the green car and was intended to also be a factory show car as well. It is highly unlikely that another shop a thousand miles away would build their version of a 70 Daytona Charger exactly like the green factory show car. The purple car is loaded to the gills with options that Dodge wanted customers to order. The purple car according to the vehicle order number was not one of the original 112 factory built sunroof equipped 70 Chargers built in 1970. I believe that Dodge sent the car to American Sunroof Corporation and had the sunroof installed, probably before it was sent to be converted into a wingcar. I believe that the reason these cars didn't have the rear window conversion was because they didn't have to,they weren't being counted as one of the original 503 built to qualify for Nascars rules. The original public relations 69 Daytona Charger did not receive the flush back glass treatment either,as it was also built just to show the car to the public. The 69 Charger 500 cars had already been built when the public relations 69 Daytona Charger was built,but it was not converted to the flush rear glass window even though the parts to do so had already been developed and installed earlier on the Charger 500 cars. The 70 Daytona Chargers were intended to be show cars only,and I don't know if Chrysler didn't want to spend the money doing the flush back glass treatment, or Creative Industries couldn't fit them into the schedule to do them. Creative Industries was making the pieces to build nearly 2000 Superbirds at the time,rolling the fenders on every E body car that was built in 1970 with 15 inch tires,and doing all the fiberglass hoods for the A12 cars at the time, so they were running balls out. Both the green car and the purple car are built almost virtually identical, so its my belief that the same custom shop assembled both cars,and possibly a third blue one that has never been found. The guy who bought the purple car claims that he went to Detroit and picked up the car already converted to a Daytona, and a picture of the car with a paper temporary plate on it confirmed that the car was converted in 1970 when it was a new.car. Like the Supercharger the Diamante, and the Rapid transit cars these 70 show car Daytona Chargers were sold off when Chrysler deemed them no longer necessary to keep. I believe that the reason these.cars are are less known is because they didn't have much time if any on the auto show circuit, because in January of 1970,the Federal crash bumper standards changed and Chrysler was no longer allowed to sell wing cars. All of the Superbirds had to be built before January 1st of 1970 for Chrysler to be allowed to sell them to the public. That combined with the Nascar rule change virtually handicapping the areo cars out of existence is why I believe that these cars were sold off in early 1970. There is no other explanation that makes sense as to why these two practically identical wing cars were built in late 1969. Nobody was building clone wingcars when original Daytona Chargers were still sitting on dealer lots. I believe they were built to be factory show cars,and they had a very short lifespan on the show circuit, with little to no exposure before being sold off.

One small note and only on the A12 cars, CREATIVE INDUSTRIES had NOTHING to do with the production of the A12 cars for anything from assembly to component sourcing or component manufacturing. The A12 fiberglass lift off hoods were manufactured in Toronto, Ontario Canada by Plaza Fibreglass Manufacturing Company. There were only a few operations on the A12 cars that couldn't be done on the normal Lynch Road Assembly Plant assembly line and that (did) have to do with the fiberglass lift off hood, hood decals, the carburetors and linkage and maybe one or two very small item like hood pins and lanyards. That short list of items was done at the end of the production line at a small work area by a small special crew. This was all explained to me by Dick Maxwell (RIP) personally. Everything done in house at Lynch Road Assembly Plant on the '69 B-body A12 Road Runners and A12 Super Bees.

I could be wrong, but I remember reading that Creative Industries was involved in the A12 hoods, I think they painted them with organisol paint before they were delivered to Chrysler,and/or repaired hoods that came in damaged from the manufacturer. Supposedly they had quite a few damaged hoods end up in the dumpster at Creative, and practically every b body in the area ended up with a lift off hood.
