It's been said that the VIN stamps were done with a pneumatic gun and the quality of the finished stamping depended on the operator i.e. if the operator didn't have a firm grip, the gun could rebound and produce a double or triple stamp.

Look OK to me... Keep in mind that the U.A.W workers were not taught to be meticlics(SP?) workers and super precise on their work, production came first, not stamping quality
