My wife and I were fishing in the ocean out of wildwood n.j..While we were out at sea a bat started flying around us and at us at times! He flew and hit the bridge glass bounced off and landed on the deck.We were trying to see if we could help him.He shook off being stunned, got up started flying around again.Everyone got used to him flying around.Sorry long story.Has this happened to anyone else?

Umm....

Among all rabid animals detected in the United States, 32% are bats; 28% are raccoons; 21% are skunks; 7% are foxes; and 6% are cats.

I never mess with bats.

I wonder if it was on your boat somewhere before you cast off?

Just exactly how far out in the ocean were you, and about what time of the day did the bat show up? If only a couple miles off shore, and it was getting dark, I suspect he was hitching a ride on your boat someplace. Bats don't normally fly too far over the ocean, nor do they fly around during day light hours very often. Unusual activity of a bat would make me concerned.

I've seen many bats at night flying around the local lakes and ponds eating their dinner of insects up
More around the old white night streetlights years ago in the deserts of SO CA,, lots of them up

When we were kids, we used to throw small rocks up into the bugs flying around the street lights and watch the bats follow the rocks down to near the ground.

Most know bats and even at times lost owls will crash anyplace they can during the day. On job sites I used to find bats hidden as many times as id find moths and other things that hide from the daylight. Any dark crack or overhang.

The worst is running up on a owl with a six foot wing span, who is spooking who?
