if the shaft on that would mount in an engine stand, that would be pretty sweet.

Has anyone here ever mounted a 727 to an engine stand to work on it? Just wondering if the bellhousing would hold up where it is bolted to the stand. Yes, I've been using an engine stand for transmission rebuilds for at least 20 years. It makes the job much easier.

What I was referring to with my original question was bolting the trans. directly to the engine stand like you would an engine block, not using a fixture of some sort. I've heard of some people doing so but I would think that too much stress would be put on the bell housing where it bolts up. You wouldn’t have any issues bolting it to the bellhousing. Except restricted access to the internals.

Except restricted access to the internals. You'd be severely limited as to what you could do if you mounted it like that. For myself, the only time I needed a stand was when I was loading all the internals into the trans from the bellhousing end...making bolting the trans to a stand by the bellhousing completely useless. I'd rather have it laying on a bench if that was my only option. AndyF's bracket is nice, but won't work if you're working w/ a case that has a CSR carbon shield on it when it's in the car. Those mount lugs have to be cut off the clear the shield.

I've heard of some people doing so but I would think that too much stress would be put on the bell housing where it bolts up. I designed a bracket to bolt to the front bellhousing area but it doesn't work as well on stock transmissions as going to tabs. Going to the front works okay on a full race trans which is super light and doesn't have the tabs.
