Has anyone here ever mounted a 727 to an engine stand to work on it? Just wondering if the bellhousing would hold up where it is bolted to the stand.

I did this so that it can be worked on as well. Also takes up less floor space when hanging down. I was given an old basketball hoop that I cut up to make the holder.

I used to do Auto trans repair long ago in a previous life. Have a holding fixture similar to this. Always served me well.

if the shaft on that would mount in an engine stand, that would be pretty sweet.

Yes, I've been using an engine stand for transmission rebuilds for at least 20 years. It makes the job much easier.

A link to that bracket would be helpful.

What I was referring to with my original question was bolting the trans. directly to the engine stand like you would an engine block, not using a fixture of some sort. I've heard of some people doing so but I would think that too much stress would be put on the bell housing where it bolts up.

You dont bolt it to the bellhousing you bolt it to the tabs/lugs on the side.

You wouldn’t have any issues bolting it to the bellhousing.
Except restricted access to the internals.

iagree You'd be severely limited as to what you could do if you mounted it like that. For myself, the only time I needed a stand was when I was loading all the internals into the trans from the bellhousing end...making bolting the trans to a stand by the bellhousing completely useless. I'd rather have it laying on a bench if that was my only option.

AndyF's bracket is nice, but won't work if you're working w/ a case that has a CSR carbon shield on it when it's in the car. Those mount lugs have to be cut off the clear the shield.

I designed a bracket to bolt to the front bellhousing area but it doesn't work as well on stock transmissions as going to tabs. Going to the front works okay on a full race trans which is super light and doesn't have the tabs.

What does the weight have to do with anything?
