Converting a standard 71 cuda driver mirror to a remote sport mirror for a friend. How is the remote adjustment housing retained on the door panel? I know a chrome bezel screws onto the remote housing through the panel but what secures the bezel to the panel? Is there a retainer that attaches to the backside of the door panel. Also what location to drill the panel for the remote? Or do the back side of the door panel have an indentation of where to drill the hole. Thanks

The door panel has a location molded in to the back side. There is a clip that holds the adjusting knob. I don't have a picture handy.

These are pictures of the clip JBC426 referred to.

The square clip attaches to the cable not the door panel. The door panel is squeezed between the clip and the screw on bezel. It's tabs index the hole on the door to the cable so when you move the knob up is up and down is down.

@RROD

Would your buddy want to sell his standard mirror?
What's the date code on the glass? Really small etching on the glass at 12 o'clock

also, if you have an original door panel in excellent condition without a mirror hole (difficult to find) - you may want to sell or trade it for a panel with the hole (a little easier to find) work what color is it?

6bblgt: The panel is black. When I get over there this week I will check. Thanks everyone for the teaching session. Never to old to learn.
