We're cutting down the trees behind my shop since the property has been sold. Timber prices are high right now so hopefully I'll make a few bucks in the process. Some of these trees are really big. This 20 incher is medium sized. The largest ones are in the 30 inch ranch at the base.

Make sure to disclose the removal to the buyer.
Typically one needs a Timber Harvest Plan and or conversion if you plan to sell the logs.
A lot can be avoided bt contacting a small mill owner or if there is a means to authorize the removal for fire or other determined safety issue, i.e. power lines, squashing the building.

Pretty sure the buyer got a deal to purchase without timber or this will end in a mega disaster of bullets or lawsuit. I could see somebody wanting land and not caring if they got it cheaper this way. Not everybody can swing a purchase and harvest cost upfront.

Another trick was to apply pressure with the excavator bucket so the tree would go the correct direction. Takes a delicate touch and some room to maneuver.

I talked to a couple of saw mills that are buying lumber right now. The price is pretty good too. You have to cut the logs to the dimensions that they want and you have to follow their instructions. In Oregon you have to get a notification number from the department of forestry before you can sell the timber to a saw mill.

I tried driving the excavator. I figured out how to do a few simple things but I haven't gotten the hang of any complex motions. I suppose it is like anything else, you need to put the time in before you see the results.

The market price for wood chips is still way up, especially on the USA East coast ports.
These wood chips are burned in European electric power plants.

If these chip prices stay high they will soon be cutting Kelp from the oceans and letting it dry in the sun before chipping it.

You can also sell “carbon credits” for letting trees grow, and not be cut.

Shouldn’t people be paid to get fatter each year (fix carbon) and then be buried in sealed caskets that do not permit oxidation?

Yeah I've been dropping a few of the trees. I'm not as good as the pro, but I can usually drop them in the general direction that I'm aiming for. He can put a spin on the tree to get them to lay down right where he wants. Pretty impressive to see how he controls a 80 ft tree by just adjusting the size of the hinge.

This one came down last November , I looked for cheaper options and could not find any .. cost $3000.00 .. it was 85 foot tall and was afraid it would fall on my garage , it weighted 22,000 lbs

Yeah big stuff that is close to a house is tricky to take down. Usually need a climber or a ladder truck. Was that an Oak tree? The wood might have been worth something to somebody if it was.

One reason why I cut it down, feared it would be but, surprisingly it was quite healthy, doesn't mean it might not of fell down, we had lots and lots of wind last winter and several storms this spring with high winds .

Some sawmills won't take trees from around a house because they often have metal inside them such as grown over swing chains or nails. Hard on saw blades. Same around fence lines. They have fence wire and nails in them. Saw a picture of one tree that had grown around a rifle. Go figure.

Yeah the saw mill I contracted with was concerned about that. There isn't anyway to know for sure if a tree has a nail in it but I've lived here for more than 20 years and I've never driven a nail into any of the trees. Hopefully there isn't any metal in any of the trees since that can blow up a saw blade at the mill.
