My hemi cold can also hit 100psi on10w30 anything much over idle. Never less than 75-85 at idle cold.

replaced the pickup with a new one, same as the old one. I had to do some adjusting to get a level 7/16" space between the pickup and pan. now I have 75 psi cold,40 psi warm at idle speed and pressure jumps right up to 70 psi warm and stays there until I let off. Old pickup was to close to the pan.
Cheers!

I make all the stock BB pickup either touch the bottom of the oil pans or no more than thickness(not the width tsk) of the dipstick slide under the closest part of the stock pickups like Mopar FSM recommends up Which says the pickup should touch the bottom of the insides of oil pans: scope:
I've never had oil pressure issues with them that way, I've built hundreds of BB Mopar V8 motors that way shruggy

Touching is correct with a stock style pickup that has the shield on the bottom. Most aftermarket don't have that so one needs to set the gap.

after a bunch of web research I've learned with a HV pump and after market PU you want up to 1/2" gap between the pickup and pan. Since I'm using the Summit 6 quart hemi pan I went with the Summit pick up. I don't know if there is a stock style pickup that works with this pan and a new pickup was only 20 bucks and fits with the Mopar windage trey. next test is to drive the car and look out for sucking air on braking,my next concern...

I ran the Summit brand 6 quart 1970/71 Hemi/ 440 six pack oil pan with the stock oil pickup on my old 517 C.I. pump gas 400 stroker motor with a set of ported big valve 906 heads and later several different sets of aluminum haeds with 440 ports af=t first and later with a set of Indy M.W. SR heads with an Indy 400-3 intake and a older non-HP Holley 1050 CFM Dominator list # 9375 carb. I race the heck out of that car at both 1/4- and 1/8-mile tracks, best ET was 9.993 at 134.+ MPH in the 1/4 mile, CRS on the best 1/8 mile blush
The only time I had any oil pressure issues was on a 1/4 mile track when I let off(running 134.+ MPH) about 200 to 300 Ft. after the finish line would start to lose oil pressure when it at or below the add mark on the oil dipstick tsk As long as it had enough oil in the pan cold to be above the add mark by about a 1/4 inch it wouldn't do that work
That happened twice and not again by adding 1 quart of oil up scope

Here's a milodon 1/2 that broke at the threads. You can see it has the strap across the bottom of pickup but instructions said to still install it an 1/8" off bottom of pan.

Poor installation instructions.

That strap should touch the pan and the basket should be 1/8” off the bottom.
That’s why the pickups break - vibration. I’m betting if you could see the threads closer they broke right where the top thread of the block ended.
