It was one of those "What the heck is that!" moments. After a long drive over the weekend in my 02 300M Special, the next morning I came outside to see what looked like hair hanging out of one exhaust tip. Before I pulled on it, I was trying to think of what animal could possibly have this kind of hair? Pulled on it and it kept coming out for like 2 feet. Long fiberglass strands.

If I poke up into the mufflers I can feel that in the center. I assume it is blowing out for some reason or breaking down. Exterior of system is looking fine, but maybe rotting out from inside? Doesn’t seem to change sound or performance or anything.

I thought it was pretty odd.

Fiberglass is a common muffler material. Hence the name glass pack.

Odd to see it coming out like that. Honestly I have never seen that before.

If the sound is ok then I wouldn't worry but really odd. If you notice a power loss start looking to the muffler/resonator to be clogged.

I always envisioned a short strand fiberglass mat, not like this. I really thought something crawled up in there, since we have been having critters mess with cars at my work.

Last one I cut into had a perforated tube in the center and around that long strands of fiberglass wrapped around the perforated tube.

Exhaust pressure would pump out through the perforations and be dampened by the fiberglass.

They were not real quiet because the majority of the exhaust pulse still had a straight path through the center but they would lower the volume a bit.

When you told your car you were taking it to the drags I think it misinterpreted you.
