Your link says that the top is the stud and the bottom is the bolt. Also in 66-69 on direct drive starters there are two bolts and no stud.

Your link says that the top is the stud and the bottom is the bolt. They're wrong. Also in 66-69 on direct drive starters there are two bolts and no stud. You're right, my bad.

If I get a chance this weekend I'll see what is under there. Might be correct most everything else was.

Well my starter was dead when I got he car and I reused the same bolts in the restoration, were they mixed up by the original owner over the years??? Anyway the top is Sems thru the starter the bottom is also Sems into the starter.

Are you looking for the lengths of the bolts besides the diameter? Yes. Overall length, shoulder length on the one and head markings.

Are you looking for the lengths of the bolts besides the diameter? Yes. Overall length, shoulder length on the one and head markings. Just as an engineering rule of thumb you just need to add the bolt diameter (i.e., in this case 7/16") to the starter flange thickness (where the bolt hole is). In other words if the starter flange is 1/2" thick plus a 1/8" washer you need to add all of those together to have the minimum correct bolt length 7/16 + 8/16 + 2/16 = 17/16 or 1-1/16" minimum That's just an example and not exact for your bolts. Standard practice is to have at the least the diameter of the bolt as thread engagement or you need to have 7/16th of the thread into the block or you will strip or pull out the threads of either the bolt or the engine block. If you get bolts that have less than the diameter of the bolt thread engagement, then they are wrong. A little more than the bolt diameter is good but not less. Good luck. Mike
