Hi guys, am installing EFI (Holley Terminator) on to my cuda. Looking at my headers now, I notice the bungs are horizontal. How bad is that?
Eveywhere I read anything about sensor placement, always says to mount at minimum 10 degrees above horizontal - so it seems like common knowledge.
Can't imagine that TTI would make a rookie mistake like that? Maybe it's not as big a deal as it's made out to be?
Your thoughts? Thanks!

It's not ideal but should be OK, I think best position is between 12 and 2 (or 10) O Clock. I have mine at 2 and 10, it's never been an issue. I think it's just to help with condensation which can shorten the life of the sensor.

Probably be fine. Everyone recommends a slight vertical angle to help keep moisture off the sensor so they don't get thermal shocked. You could ask TTi why the do it that way. They'll probably tell you that they have been doing it for years and nobody has ever had an issue. That is the standard aftermarket answer for all questions.

For moisture reasons

It's definitely preferred to have them with at least 10* of downward angle for the moisture concern, but I've also seen factory Harleys and some other bikes with the tip of the sensor pointing upward in the exhaust.

Yes, I understand the reason and theory behind it (assuming TTI does also?) - just wondering how big of a deal is it. I'll call TTI and get their 2 cents.
Hate to yank these headers and "fix" something from a company that claims they cater to "enthusiasts that demand the best".....

I just checked on our standard BMW 540 V8 and the O2 sensors for pre and post cat are at 9 oclock (one side only shruggy ) . Had the car 10 years and never had a code come up for an O2 sensor. HTH's.

I wasn't happy about the angle either, but 10,000+ miles and no problems with the actual O2 sensors themselves drive

Interesting, thought 12 was ideal?
When I checked the thought process was you wanted any moisture to drain away from the electrical connector.
Threaded side is sealed, so no issues there?

Yes, everyone in the aftermarket world uses that same answer. "we've never had a problem", "you're the first to bring that up", "I'll talk to the engineer and see if he has any feedback for you", etc. SOP #1 in the blue folder by the door.

Send it. My assumption for TTI's placement is clearance issues that could arise by putting it in any position other than horizontal. My guess is that is the easiest place to install one on a musclecar to avoid hitting something. Given all the variations of things done in prodcution and the way folls install engines in the cars. Just a guess, but it is not going to hurt anything you will find many production cars with similar locations. Moisture would be the only problematic issue.

Under the car anything between 12-3 could potentially cause a clearance problem. I think 3 or 9 is the safest bet for a generic coverage.

Mine are at 3:00 and I have not had any sensor problems.

my caravan has the post-cat sensor at almost 9 o'clock. it's got the factory pipe on it, so it works alright where it's at.
the "bus" has almost 175k on it now, and never a problem.

Just run it, the orientation is just a guide for best practice and for the typical use that these cars will see will never have an issue. Mine are like that too but I had welded them in myself. There really isn't much room to put them in the ideal clocked location.

Well as a TTI dealer I can tell you that they will put them where ever I tell them to when they are ordered. IF you do not specify they will give you the standard for best clearance is 3 and 9 but not always. Todd

When I built my new headers, 3-9 were the only locations the sensor wouldn't hit the floor pan, or be hanging down.

My TTI headers are the same. So far not a problem, but less than 3,000 miles?
