This is a street build with pump gas compression (10:1) and a small hyd roller cam that is designed to work with a five speed in a B body car. (1968 Dodge Charger)
The engine uses a stock 400 block with a 3.90 crank, Trick Flow 240 heads, a Trick Flow intake and a full Holley Sniper system including the Hyperspark distributor. Engine ends up making 550 hp and 575 torque in the best pull. This video is just a walk around during engine warmup. I also have a short video on my channel that shows the console screen during one of the pulls. Here is the link to the walk around video: https://youtu.be/cvCYxvQ5sBc

Here is a link to a video of the dyno console during one pull. I also had my laptop open with all of the Sniper EFI stuff on it but I wasn't set up to capture both screens during the run.

Andy what Hyd. rollers do you like to use, I might be throwing a hyd. roller in my hemi and got a set of Howards as a gift for a friend I helped out? Lately after reading some of the threads on here about valve float issues with hyd. cams, in general, it's got me second guessing using a hyd. roller in it .

running up my post count some more .

I didn't write down the numbers but it was in the low 230 range. Might have been 232/236 or something like that. It was a regrind from Oregon Cam Grinding since the guy couldn't find anything on the shelf.
We didn't pull the engine past 6000 rpm. I don't know which lifters were in the engine. The customer sourced most of his own parts so it could be most anything. Customers buying parts these days tend to just vacuum up anything that is in stock including buying parts from ebay and craigslist.

I'm not sure it matters, maybe it does maybe it doesn't. I'm pretty sure that everyone tries to build a high quality lifter but perhaps some shops aren't as good as others. I've used Comp hyd roller lifters up past 7000 rpm without any problem but other people say they won't work. Same with other brands. We test a lot of motors where the customer has bought some off brand stuff and it usually works. RPM is the killer. If you're going to spin 6000 rpm then probably anything works. 7000 rpm then maybe only a few lifters work. 8000 rpm might only work with certain LS type hyd roller lifters.

This was actually a very easy day on the dyno. The customer lives 3 hours away and he arrived at 8:30 so you know he got up early. The engine was already on the dyno when he got there and I had the Sniper tuned pretty close so we just fired it up, got it up to temp and started to make pulls. We made a few pulls, checked the oil filter for debris and were done for the day. It took a little while to cool the engine down and strip it off the dyno, but the customer was out the door with his new baby by noon.

What would you estimate the power numbers would have looked like with the TF cam?

With the Trick Flow cam I'd expect right at 600 hp. We've used the TF cam in a couple of these engines with 10:1 compression and they always make right around 600 hp. The Sniper kills a little power compared to a really good race carb but it isn't much. Porting the intake brings back the power. A good one inch tapered spacer will add a little power, etc. The problem with the TF cam is that it is probably too big for a manual transmission in a heavy B body car with 3.23 gears. The engine is going to buck at low speed and that can be annoying in a true street car.

50hp from a HR to another HR cam would be a huge gain......... it would make for an interesting test.

I have that cam for a 511 rb I had built, ez heads and an M1 4150 intake compression should be about 10.4. What would you estimate power wise.

My experience with strokers using std port intake manifolds, along with modest CR and cams, is that .........that trifecta of parts will tend to make peak hp fairly early in the powerband, and as a result of that........ the numbers aren’t that high(at least they haven’t been for me).

Add into the mix that results from different dynos can vary quite a bit........ casting a wide net over the variables....... I’d say somewhere between 550-600hp.

One big variable for us here is whether or not the engine will reach its natural power peak based on the basic combo........ and not having the peak occur early because of the lifters having issues........ which seems to be what we’ve been seeing here lately.

I would happy with that. It should be torgue monster. I have a good choice of intakes TM7, Torker II or a Victor 4500. I might try solid lifters ,since I have them if I don't like it then change to hydraulic. By the way, Fast you did my heads, just the basics and I'm still beating my old 446.

There can be big power differences by changing around a few of the variables.......

Engine A-
493” w-std port EZ heads, 10.5cr, Holley SD intake, HP950 carb, 252@.050/.630” lift solid roller cam

Engine B-
493” w-std port SR heads, 11.5cr, M1/4500, 1050 dominator, 277@.050/.660” lift solid roller cam

Engine B made about 75hp more than Engine A, with the same sized/same flowing intake port in the heads(if anything, the heads on Engine A had slightly better intake flow).
Same dyno, same dyno operator, same headers.

There is a HR build here that will be going together shortly where in order for the HP goal to be achieved the lifters will likely need to go solidly over 6K........so we’ll see how that works out.
