Just to do it I have flowed heads as they came off the car with carbon on the valves, and then flowed after cleaning carbon. Big difference in flow, especially the carbon on the backside of the valves which usually will not burn off under hard runs. I would try some good carbon cleaning chemicals, like BG products or GM top engine cleaner.
