I was 7 when the 747 jumbo jet arrived in 69 & can remember all the hype about it.

Wow, what an iconic Airplane!!! I believe called "The Queen of the Skies" for many years.

Facts are stubborn things.

Man, that's a long production run !
I would think they did pretty well financially with that model, and deservedly so, I guess.
I don't track such things, but I think its safety record is excellent, no ?

What’s the old saying, if it’s not a Boeing, I ain’t going ?

But I don’t fly anyway. It’s too dangerous.

Flying is WAY SAFER per passenger mile than driving has ever been, way safer up scope
You get their faster also, but the waiting and hassles getting into the plane to travel is not so good whiney

Honestly, I wasn't even sure we were still building the 747's. End of another era. What a fabulous plane.

I'm assuming you mean one of the grade B movies that he made a long time ago, correct?
I do remember small parts of that movie, but nothing in it referring to him or anyone flying confused

Got to roam around the Everett facility when I was interning at Boeing in 2012. The scale of the assembly lines is mind-bending...nothing like holding a meeting in an office while one-third of a 747 is passing by slowly on a crane. The 777 and 787 can handle the load, but the 747 is one of the very few aircraft the general public can spot from a mile away and know what it is. It's had a good run, and it will be missed.

I would think they will still be in the skies for a very long time which is great. Maybe some from 1969 still shruggy

Some of my most memorable flights were international on the upper deck of 747s. Loved those planes, pretty much relegated to cargo duty now.,

It's sad that it's coming to an end. It's the most recognizable plane. We had a bunch of jumbo jet toys growing up and I hope to get a chance to fly in one again before they're gone.

This is a great book for anyone who's interested in them.
