Was having starter issues with my T-56 Magnum and asked my installer after the matter of the fact about dialing in the bellhousing. He said that he didn’t, lucky me. Any how I had a little accident with the car so decided to repaint it all and drop the K-frame. This is what I have right now. I understand that I need 14 offset dials for 12 and 6 but I haven’t seen a video about the 3 and 9 index being off speck like mine is. Could somebody help me understand and tell me what dials I need since I’m out of spec at both indexes. Thanks!!!

Can you rotate the picture so the top of the bellhousing is straight up please? luck
It looks like maybe the hole in the adapter may not be round confused scope
Let us know what you find on both luck
I like to see less than .007 run out variance side to side and top to bottom on stick bellhousing and scatter shields up twocents

the motor plate doesn.t enter in the equation. That should be the bellhousing you are going to use. Birdtracker

Don’t understand what you are saying? This is the index plate that is attached to the bellhousing if that’s what you are referring to.

When you install the .014 offset dowels you can tweak them slightly to solve the other offset issue.

Furthermore, having the dial indicator offset such as it is is not doing you any favors as far as accuracy goes.

I understand what you are saying but I have the indicator mounted dead center on the crank. I’ll order a different indicator that won’t allow to me to have any offset and go back over what I did.

That indicator should work fine .You need a smaller mag base to get it out of the hole you are indicating so you can position the indicator perpendicular to the point of contact. With that angle your .027 may be closer to .035

The base does not need to be mounted dead center on the crank - I don't know why people think it does. You can mount it right out on the flat surface of the flywheel, it doesn't matter. The dial indicator will be in the hole and all that matters is that IT is roughly level with the flat surface of the bell and, for lack of a better term, square to the edge of the hole. And it also has to point in the direction of the base.

Here is the way I do it. I use my cell phone to take a short video then I know which way the bellhousing has to move. Once you know that you just rotate the dowels to give you the movement that you need. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0WmAR4KRlc

Thanks for the advice everyone and the video Andy!!! I’ll definitely buy another Dial indicator and redial it.

You can’t use the numbers you have to select dowels. With the poor positioning of the indicator, your numbers aren’t accurate.
Get the indicator radially centered and on the same angle as the bell surface.
Only after doing that will you have good numbers to work with. After getting good numbers, you can rotate the dowels to zero in on your target.

Here is the set up that I use. I had to build it myself since I couldn't find anyone who sold a tool that worked with my parts.

Do you make that tool??

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

I think what you need to make the setup and checking easier is a horizontal dial test indicator. Here is an example on amazon. They work a lot better to check backlash on rear axles as well.

I believe I can just use this magnetic base found at harbor freight and just use my dial indicator.

I used a base like that for my ultra bell and it worked fine just the total ht of the gage is smaller than the hole and enough movement to measure the min/max.
