Here is what I was told to do... Take a Lead Acid battery and run jumper cables from the LA to the Optima (pos to pos) and (neg to neg) then put a battery charger on the LA battery.

W.I.N., I'll try that but I don't understand....... The resistance in a AGM battery is so low that the charger doesn't see a load. Make sure you start with a fully charged LA battery...

Thanks for that Wish i had known of this before trading in a 'dead' 15 yr. old red Optima core for a new Optima last year. I would have bought the new Optima anyway, but could have given them a different core. Would have been worth a try to recharge it.

Haven't watched the vid yet, but I have an OLD Optima that's been sitting around for 10+ years. I also have a new one I purchased w/in the last year to replace it, since I ASSumed the old one was nothing but scrap now.

I also have a new one I purchased w/in the last year to replace it, since I ASSumed the old one was nothing but scrap now. The video is good. They recover a 20 year old Optima by using another battery as a storage cell. The trick requires a battery charger with a 10 amp setting. Trickle charger doesn't work and neither does the super blast type of charger.

As an aside... I have switched to Snyder motorsports batteries, smaller (by weight and size) and less expensive.

Next time you have it charging and it gets warm feel all the cylinders, if one is cold then you likely won't get it over 10.5v or so due to a dead cell.
