how do the various brake pad materials compare to the factory semi-metallic pads used ?
i'm talking EBC yellow, green, etc. Hawk varieties, ceramic materials and anything else out there.
i have read all the info available on these pads, but i'm looking for real world experience. this is for use with 15" wheels and the smallish rotors that go with them.
i don't want to buy a bunch of pads, only to find out i'm disappointed in the results.

The EBC pads are pricey!! Wondering if there is value to be had there over the semi metallic pads offered at the normal parts stores for less than 25% of the cost of EBC. Firm Feel has some carbon metallic pads. They don't offer much of an explanation there. Wondering if those are just expensive semi-metallic pads. I wouldn't mind paying more for pads that will provide a seat-of-the-pants improvement in stopping power. I just don't know enough here. Like the previous post, the pads are a bit pricey to just try.

that's just it. there are recommendations to "try" pads, and examples of what pads to use for an intended purpose, but no one comes back with experiences on how a particular works out.
paying big bux for a set of pads would be ok if a person had an idea they might work better than the xyz brand of pad being used at the present time.

I'm currently using stock factory calipers... pin-type... with Cordoba 11.75 rotors, as well as steel braided lines. For many past years ... 1970s- 80s (before I swapped to the Cordoba rotors and braided lines), I ran full organic Wagner front pads... the car was then dominantly used for SCCA pylon autocrossing. The full organic pads worked great with only minimal runs.

Later on, I switched to semi-metallic Wagner pads (same as police pads) ... being old-time asbestos material (now obsolete for health reasons)... and they worked pretty good for extended time on the autocross courses, very good on the street/highway, and pretty good on some hi-speed road course time trials (but... they were very dusty upon heavy usage). I recently used up my 2nd remaining old set of those same asbestos semi-metallics... more usage on HSAX/HPDE events, as well as more on the pylon autocross.

I briefly/recently tried a cheap set of O'Reilly standard semi-metallic pads... those didn't last long at all ... one weekend at a HSAX/HPDE session... not good stopping power, either.

I've just put on a set of HAWK+ front pads... I forget which number (bought from Summit)... about $60/set?... and there is an absolute improvement that's noticeable... for all driving and performance events.... and they are cleaner, too!.... I bought two sets... They wore well through one full day of HSAX/HPDE... should be able to get a couple more weekends or longer with them on HSAX/HPDE. I'll use these for the next season or so... maybe I'll eventually try the yellow or red brands.

Regarding FF pads, I believe they are simply re-boxed .... from Wagner... should be A-OK/good ... nothing to worry about.

Most of these aftermarket performance pads are being designed for heavier usage that will require ever increasing rotor temps to work well. In fact, some have such high temp capability, they will be less effective than regular semi-metallics during normal street driving.

If you talk to the companies about their products, ask them about temp ranges to give you an idea of where these will fall.

you are correct about the temperature ranges needed on some pads.
however, when asked about this, it seems to be a "higher than normal" answer is the standard response.
Mitch, thanks for the review on the Hawk + pads. this is the information i am seeking, real world experience.

The mopar cop car pads are very good materials, the do not loose there ability to stop from high speed 120...125 even after being cycled thru HOT more than several times. I guess they call that hi speed laps. There are 2 mopar pn's - pins/sliders. I bet they are still out there.

Better yet but dirtier in dust are carbon metallic linings - readily available beside Firm Feel in both pads and shoes and will not break the bank.
Stops the car! Best is velvetouch but unless you find that in a parts inventory or on ebay or at the swap meet you are sol
If it's very hot laps you want that is a very different discussion regardless of calipers. If this is about aftermarket calipers and the pad choices the calipers need to be identified for discussion. Rotor temps are mitigated by ventilation and not an issue.

I saw that Bergman is carrying performance pads, I would have considered going this route if I hadn't just bought a different set:

I had Carbotech build me a set of slider caliper pads with their ceramic street 1521 material (just for street driving and drag racing) but they can do any compound. I haven't driven on them yet, hoping in the next 2-3 weeks.

I've ran Hawk pads and EPS Yellow's on my '73 Dart.
The Hawks were a definite step up above the stock stuff.
The Yellows felt even better and were a lot dustier too. But I ran these pads with a slightly too large MC so have never experienced their full braking force.
Most performance brake pads will grab better after they get some heat in them.
