I'm about to install my aluminum water pump and housing on my engine. I have a tube of Permatex Form-a-gasket #2 and a tube of Permatex Ultra black. Are either of these ok to use on the gaskets? It's been so long since I installed a water pump that I don't remember what I used the last time.

Everyone has their favorite. I use a light coat of ultra grey silicone on the gasket.
If using a motorplate, I don't use gaskets at all. Just a light coat of ultra grey silicone. twocents

I use Superformance Gaskets, and just install them dry.

Been using ultra grey for years between the pump, motor plate and block.

The ultra black would be just as good.

Permatex makes an antifreeze specific sealer you can use.

Their part # is 22071, works good up, last a long time scope I use it on the gasket (both sides) on the thermostat housing only, not on the water pump to block gaskets twocentswrench

1 suggestion...
Get some longer threaded studs or cut off the nut head from screws..
Then screw these into the block when installing the water pump housing and seal they act as guides.. Makes the job much easier without having the gasket slip down.
Then 1 by 1 unscrew the studs and install the proper bolts and torque things down..

Just my $0.02... wink

I use Ultra Grey on everything. My race car motor plate and water pump use it w/o gaskets. Never a leak.

I use the pink gaskets from Superformance and I don't use any sealant.

I'm using Fel Pro gaskets. I also meant to ask, should I put anything on the bolt threads?

Oil or Anti seize up:
All the BB Mopar bolt holes for the timing cover and water pump housing mounting bolt holes in the block are blind, they do not go into the water jackets: scope:

I use ARP 12 point stainless for all builds and put a thin coat of ARP bolt lube on the threads. ARP stainless are the only bolts I use unless the application requires something specific such as rod bolts.
