Just so I don’t have egg on my face, I had a ‘discussion’ with a gentleman about Max Wedge cranks. He claims they came with 8 bolt cranks I said no, only factory engine (after 1962) with 8 bolts was the Hemi. Heck I had a Max and it had the 6 bolt crank. He showed a write up that said Max came with the 8 bolt, I said BS, Right or wrong

i want to say 6 bolt as well, so you won't be the only one with egg on ones face.
most of the literature i have collected about the maxie's say the cranks were hand selected passenger car items that were then given an extra dab of radius on the journals, then were flame hardened.
i did a quick scan of the direct connection and mopar performance engine books, and the only thing mentioned about the cranks was one could install a hemi crank in a wedge block, but then had to use hemi length rods.

I was thinking Cab might chime in on the subject along with the old guys that raced or worked on one.

Two things on the stock stroke RB and 426 Hemi cranks, they both have 3.750 stroke and both type of rods from either motor will bolt on and work on either crank with the correct pistons and wrist pin location up scope
As far as the 8 bolt cranks all V8 cranks in Mopars made before 1962 had 8 bolt cranks with studs in the flex plates or flywheels and a longer crank flange sticking out further behind the block (for attaching the retaining nuts on them) than after 1962.
When Mopar brought out the 426 Race Hemi in 1964 they went to the threaded 8 bolt cranks, not in the stock Max Wedge motors ever tsk That being said I've heard the rumor about MAYBE(made up rumor down) some of the hemi cranks got put into some of the last M.W. motors made in Feb. And March of 1964, NOT SO twocents
I can't remember ever seeing a standard radius crank in a production motor after 1962, all the race cranks (Moldex and the others) Mopar, Direct Connection and the others they sold back then had the full radius cranks making using a stock rod bearing a pain on chamfering the edges whiney shruggy

For those of you who don't know Mopar used a reverse radius crank for all production motors, slant 6 and V8 I've seen made after 1962 shruggy
I'm not sure about the cranks used in later 4 cylinders and V6 motors confused

Which only proves what's written isn't always true.

i knew Cab would know. up
i didn't mention the 8 bolt [through holes with nuts] used in the pre-62 engines just because of the longer position crank flange.

Those weren't threaded either like the later cranks are. wrench
They didn't have a crankshaft center register either, they use the outside edge of the crankshaft flange as the register on the flywheel and converters, no converter hubs back then.

Like the KB alcohol crank I have, threads but no hub register.

All the top fuel cranks I've seen in the last twenty years didn't have the crank registers, only the outer flange for locating the flywheels shruggy
You can buy a press in register that works well and center the hubs on converters, call around up scope

I cut the flange off an old crank and I’ll chuck the new crank in my trusty lathe to drill it for the piece.
