keep track of your time, and money spent on this.......

MSD id never use again.... get a used EFI ecu and never look back....put coil on plug and your timing can swing as far as you want and be ROCK SOLID....

MSD snafus will eventually cost you pistons or more, then what will the cost be ???

YOu can coil on plug it for very little, if you want get a used LS harness and coils.... up

For sure, the LS coils are cheap, easy, and powerful.

My car has a MSD digital 6 on it. Several years ago the car developed a pop immediately after the shift. I changed everything on the ignition except the box and couldn't fix it. A member here suggested setting the rev limiter to 0. I did and the problem went away. I called MSD and they'd never heard of my problem, I didn't bother sending it back because I knew they'd find nothing. I'm still running with the rev limiter set at 0.

This is disappointing to hear, after getting a grid and all the fancy doo-dads, we were likely going to go to a big fogger kit on the 655ci. It's been as reliable as a stone so far, the only thing that's "broke" is a crank trigger sensor going bad and causing a misfire but I suppose if that went west while on the gas things would go bad in a tick... blush
What issues have you had with MSD stuff ? TIA

I've used MSD race boxes, 4040B,404C,MSD7,7A, 7AL2 and now have a grid that I have not used yet.
I had one 7C box fail years ago at the Mopar race in Las Vegas, it ran fine and then quit whiney
I sent it back to MSD before they got bought out and they told me they couldn't fix it due to not having a correct harness for inside the box work Me thinks they wanted me to buy a new modern race box down
I know bunch of NHRA racers that have used the race boxes since they came out, I don't remember any of them griping or complaining about them work
I have two 7C and one 7AL2 boxes that I will continue to use in the future on motors needing them, same thing on the little red coils and the older Mallory/MSD race coils up
I bought the grid to use with a future EFI build, I called MSD last year or the year before to ask them about using it with the 7AL2 box and they said it would work, I'm hoping their correct luck

I've also thought about using a coil on plug ignition for high compression race motor on E 85 but that may be overkill work
I'm also looking at building a building a big C.I. Pro Charge motor that will make north of 2000 HP on E85, I will definitely use a grid on it to control the timing wrench

Unless your using the Large Ford style cap on a belt drive distributor, the mopar dist cap is not that good at large amounts of retard. SO when your using a 400+ or bigger amount of nitrous you run into rotor phase issues. Specifically i ran into some misfires and when nitrous ignites at the wrong time it does some damage. In my case i was cracking exh ports on a few occasions and pushing head gaskets out.

Ahh I see...... Thanks for the heads up up, I'm going to fit the Indy reverse flow kit ('cause I already have it) and was considering the belt drive dist but I guess it's a must now grin
Do these work OK together anyone ?

Edit: Sorry for the hijack Chip, hope this is OK.

No problem Tig. up You can use the MSD cap-a-dapt to fit the large ford distributor cap onto your existing distributor. If it will clear your cylinder head and valve cover. The belt drive deal is probably better, but the cap-a-dapt deal would be a lot cheaper. In my case, the big ford cap won't clear my valve cover. I know I can pull at least 14° w/o any phasing issues w/ the small cap. If I run into issues later, I'll take some base timing out.
