So, I was looking thru FB market place and this van popped up, I thought to myself, "hey! I've seen that van!"

Nothing special about it, just me sharing a story really. I first saw this van about 5 yrs ago. At the time I had a little extra money so I was honestly curious about it. Back then, it didn't look like it had been sitting long. It didn't have mold all over it, all the tires were pumped up, and the one look I got inside thru the back (door) window, the interior looked decent.

If you look at the drivers side pic, that's the street directly behind the van. It's not like I climbed fences and went into someone's back yard to see this thing. Just as I looked into the back window, a woman started SCREAMING at me to get off her property. It was the middle of the day, I made it very apparent I was there. As I stepped back to my truck, I tried to explain I was curious about it because I was looking for a camper van. With a final scream of "DO YOU SEE A FOR SALE SIGN??" I got in my truck and slowly drove off as she threatened legal action if I showed up again.

Here we are 5 yrs later, van is still sitting and now looks like crap. A guy is selling it. Was that lady his wife or his mother? I dunno. Even if I had the money now, I'm no longer interested.

Angry people with mental illness probably. And now the van is worth way less than when you showed interest and they've gotten no pleasure from it sitting there.

I've had people come up on my '79 Power Wagon and it's obvious their intentions. I'm cautious at first but I don't freak out on them and I just say "it's not for sale" and they usually compliment it and I smile and thank them.

Facts are stubborn things.

If you own something old, ANYTHING old, its gonna draw attention., good, bad, or otherwise. Don't want to deal with it? Stick to a late model.

From time to time I have people ask about my Dakota, I don't go ballistic on 'em. Shoot, about a year ago a HS kid was asking about it. Said he always liked the look of the 'square' Dakotas but had never owned one or even been in one. I took him for a short ride around the block and he got all excited (stock V6...oooooo oh so powerful.....). I saw him (in passing) one more time several months later, and he was driving an '80's Dodge RAM PU. He was driving a car when I first saw him. Did I influence him? I dunno...... shruggy

I had all but forgotten about this van until this past weekend. The town where its sitting was having an outdoor festival of sorts, and I spotted the van as I was walking around. Still sitting in the same spot, untouched. I think the last ad I saw for it had the price below $2K. The body looks rust fee, but it would require a TON of work even to just use it as a regular van. And the fact it has a salvage title......

I'm kinda surprised it's sat so long because its in a historic part of town where appearances are everything.

It sounds like a perfect opportunity to pay her back. Drive up there, park where you did 5 years ago. When she comes out there smilin' and talking all nice, give her a good cussin' and drive away. drinking

One thing I didn't think about until after I posted this last night, there were hundreds, if not thousands of people walking past this thing during the event, yet they didn't have a for sale sign on it.

I guess they really don't want to sell it. shake_head

They’d be lucky to get $500.00 for it with a salvage title and the condition.

So you're in someone's yard without their permission walking around taking pictures and looking in windows and when they cuss you out you're offended? You are lucky that a cussing is all you got. Trespassers here are greeted at gunpoint. Why not go to the door and knock and ASK about the damn thing? You may have owned it that day. Blows my mind that people do not respect property rights.

A C, with exception of the last pic I posted, all the pics were from their marketplace ad. I wasn't "walking around taking pictures and looking in windows" Only window I looked in was the back window.

Regardless, with an an attitude like hers or yours, the only thing that would have been correct would be to just drive by. It wouldn't matter how polite I was, or if I had gone to the front door and knocked first.

I'm not the least bit upset or offended, I just find it funny how they didn't/don't want people near the van, but they want to sell it. They need to save everyone the hassle and call to have it hauled away already.
