Having issues with the mini-starter in the 67 Charger I picked up. Its impacting the flywheel and not engaging. Tried several adjustments...no good. Decided to remove it and put in a stock starter. Car has long tube Hooker Headers, so there is my first issue. Impossible to remove the starter without dropping the header, right? Got all the bolts out, see that the torsion bar is running through the header, so that has to come out too! Also found the header was cracked in half at the manifold, and one of the tubes was coming apart. When I finally get this thing out, looking for recommendations for a better header setup? Or am I stuck....I can weld the header back together, but getting the starter/header back together is always a nighmare for me. Suggestions?
Thanks!

For a street car I'd suggest one of the smallest options from TTi. Probably the 1 3/4 inch header or even go with a shorty header. https://www.ttiexhaust.com/TTi44025.htm

This car was in the beginning of resto mod stages, as aftermarker A/C mostly installed. The 440 was built by a shop in Colorado Springs, and is dyno'd at about 550HP. Would the TTI headers choke it out, or would it be okay?

TTI says the shorty headers are good up to 475HP.

I've got a '66 Charger with a 440. Had the 1-3/4" TTI headers on it for a long time. Everything clears pretty good with that setup. twocents

I ran a oem type starter up until this year. I'm doing some upgrades and a mini-starter is part of it. Plenty of clearance, just working out the cable routing. Looks like it's gonna work fine. up

Picture of the header ? If the torsion bar went thru the header it sounds to me like the tube you think is cracked and broken is supposed to be like that so you don't have to take the t bar out to get the header in and out. Get an 1 7/8 primary tube header .

running up my post count some more .

Finally got the drivers side off....yes, it was a 2pc header. Had to drop the steering linkage to wrangle it out. Now time to find replacements. Like the TTI, but they are pricey....I see Summit has the similar Hedman version for a much better price. Are they any good? MInd you, this going to just be a driver. It has alot of power, but I don't plan to go racing...

hi
you must have a starter for a 99 0r newer !

some starters did not have a sear with a tapered tooth to properly engauge flywheel .

i just ran into this myself . 2000 dakota 360 starter works .

I will keep that in mind. Just got off the TTI website...they are not shipping headers until at least August. Uh-Oh. Gonna have to find an alternate solution. I currenty have 2inch headers, wondering if I go down a size if I will have better fitment, or do I wait on TTI. I have an order ready to go with Mancini Racing....

almost everything depends on the design [routing of the pipes] how easy they will be to install.
