on the 71 dual point distributors there are 2 extra wires coming out of the retard box. one end is red and one black. where do they connect? there are no places that i am aware of to connect them?

Dual point distributors only have 1 lead coming out of them. Take the cap off and take another picture, you likely have a electronic conversion replacing the points shruggy wink

He's got the vacuum retard mechanism. I had one decades ago but forget how the retard works. Got rid of it with one of the first Mopar electronic ignition conversions. I recall GM locked out vacuum advance until 3rd gear, they used a solenoid, easily bypassed, just cannot recall what Mopar did.

This is the vacuum solenoid retard. The service manual talks about it in the electrical section chap 8. The bullet is the feed and female goes to ground. I am not sure how the engine harness is set up as I have not seen or worked on one.

those 2 wires hook to somthing. they are not long enough to connect to anything . there must be another pair of connectors that fit on the 2 leads? there is this "blue wire" {photo} ---that also is connected to the idol solinoid. it gets a black clip to mount the wire to that bracket. anyone have a photo of survivior 71 6 pack with this wiring shown?

Does the black wire reach the solenoid male terminal at the top of solenoid. I imagine the engine harness for this option would have the power feed harness on it. The 71 service manual shows a DBL wire to the red bullet power feed coming from a #1 splice. Which is the splice in the J2 wire that feed ballast and VR wires. There might be a jumper to get the black wire to the terminal of the solenoid for idle.

Red connector goes to a dark green which goes to field lug on alternator, black to idle stop solenoid.

There’s an additional wiring harness needed for the solenoid. I believe Frank Badalson sells everything (harness clips, etc)

I have ran that type of vacuum advance on several cars using NOS units. They pretty much seem to fail. I usually just disconnect the wiring and let the advance work manually.
