Wasn't sure where to put this but it's more of a technical question so i chose here wink

Does any one have, use or familiar with a older Snap on MT3000 Counselor II diagnostic machine?

My question specifically relates to the Ignition SECONDARY Inductive Pickup clamp. Mine has a ground lead attached that knocks the measured voltage from 30kv + to 10kv or less when the ground is connected.
You will also get a reasonable "BUZZ" off the ground lead if touched while not grounded.

In looking at the clamp it appears as though someone added a decent sized ceramic disc capacitor on the inside of the handle not sure why ?

I haven't looked at mine recently, but the capacitor is likely original. I've got a problem with one of my pickups so I can't really look at ignition waveforms easily. One of these days I'll fix it.

EDIT
I just saw your other post in the general section, Sorry didn't know frown no rush on the following and hope you're feeling better soon beer

If possible could you take a kwik look at yours comparing it to the above pic or snap a pic and post it ?

The gray stuff is almost like a modeling clay that is getting real stiff. I just have trouble believing they would have manufactured it that way confused
Mine also has an external clip lead for grounding that I believe might be supposed to go to one of the two pins on the connector, but am not sure. confused

And i 'm having trouble finding any info online, even tried calling Snap OFF eyes

I'm hesitant to do too much to it as it is working but only reads correctly when the ground clip is disconnected. Any clarification on both the capacitor and ground lead would be much appreciated beer

It'll be a little while. I'm recovering from gallbladder surgery AND a mild case of Covid. Covid symptoms are gone (came down with it on Sunday), but it hurts to walk from one of the four incisions. I don't even feel the other three. The one that hurts is where they removed it so it was stretched the most. I also have the manual that came with the scope and I found a troubleshooting manual online that I printed out (and may have a PDF of).

I saw that after posting and am sorry for your issues. I do have the large manual for the unit. But would be thankful for the T/S manual and a pic or two of the pickup probe when your feeling better.
Don't know if you recall but I used to LUST after your car when it was owned by the individual that worked at the Santa Clara DMV
smile Hoping you get well soon beer
