On my current 550 cube 572-13 motor project, i may consider going bigger if it makes sense . Monday i am going to pick up a Callies 4.5 stroke crank with 2.375 rod pins. I can offset grind it to 4.650 to use a 2.200 rod bearing. My pistons on order have a compression height of 1.452 to match my Molnar 7.1 h beams and 4. 315 stroke crank. I would gain about 43 cubes , or 593 cu in.
Pros -
43 cubes , more torque.
30 more HP?
Cons-
Cost, lose the center counter weights i have on the 4.315 stroke crower.
Higher rod angle
Rebalance, find 7.0 rods, or go aluminum rods if they will fit

I like it better the way you are. Too much work to go the other way.

If you plan ongoing that route I suggest you call the aluminum rod suppliers. You might not like the answer. Our dragster engine will miss this entire year due to parts lead times....If you really want bigger start buying parts now for another engine, block and al. trust me you will have plenty f time to get the money together. I have threeengines going right now and all in various stages of hurry up and wait.

They may have caught up but ??? I used to get Alum rods within a week, the set I just got in mid march were ordered the end of Dec. Even then I had to order through someone who orders a lot of rods. So as Al stated check and see.

Wil your current heads support the bigger C.I. well at the higher RPM at WOT? work
I'm thinking of having a 4.0 inch stroke crank made for one of my B1 headed race motors in a after market iron block work shruggy Can you say "rev the snot out of it " devil work realcrazyshruggy

I could use this new ( to me) crank in the megablock i have. I would need to find a set of 2.375 rod bearing h beams 6.80 long. 572 cubes, would use the pistons and rings that were 8n the first 550 (megablock) motor. Or i could grind the crank to 4.625 with 2.2 bearings and have a 588.

Seems to me the key to going faster is better heads, or weight.
You have -1 heads, correct?
Sell them and buy better heads if you want to go faster, otherwise your peeling a peanut

Not sure on 4.625 stroke but you get into rod / cam clearance issues with steel rods with a 4.750 stroke with a wedge, with any decent cam, (unless you have a raised cam block). I'm guessing you may have more of an issue with an aluminium rod. Something to be aware of.

572-13 will be on the aluminum block motor, 385cnc and finish ported to get some more flow. Vern l, member here, made 1065 hp with 572-13 heads. It probably was a 604.

I went and got the crank today. Used Callies, 2.375 rod pins, 4.5 stroke. If i can find a set of good, strong 6.76 or 6.8 h beams with . 990 small end, 2.375 big end. I had planned to use it in the aluminum block, but it makes more sense to put it in the megablock for now as a spare motor. i can end up at -.027 (below) to +. 013 (above) piston to deck hight with a good crank that has rounded leading edges on the counter weights and double keyways.
The down side is the large 2.375 bearings. But i will have to find another set of 440-1 castings to put the megablock back together.

If your 572-13's have steel valves the extra CID won't hurt one bit! Good luck.

The only rods with the mopar big end are going to be in mopar lengths. 6.76, 6.86.
Unless you want custom.
