I was digging thru some old boxes and came across my old "cheater" harness that I used to use to start my truck when I didn't have a key. My truck was a 1978 and it didn't have a steering lock so I could just plug this harness into the harness on column and then turn the switch. I never figured out all the trucks this trick worked on but it worked on my '78.

With the change of the terminal block, it could work on several years of non-tilt columns. The tilt column switch is completely different, and a tilt switch can be plugged into the truck harness and be used with a small screwdriver to slide the stitch in the switch body.
Once you get past 2004, you need the key to make the computer happy.
