70 Challenger, 5.7 Hemi, 518 in car.

Getting ready to test fit the 5.7 and wondering if coming in from side will work?
Car is in garage, so bringing engine from front on lift would be difficult because of the 1" step in concrete.
Nice level concrete floor on side, 2 car garage, with Challenger sitting against wall.

I pulled the 340 from front, not so bad going backwards down over the 1" drop, it was a pain pushing back the other way to drop engine in garage.

Best to leave transmission in final postion, or push back, drop in motor, and reconnect?

Any isues, or reason its better to come in from front?
I'm most likely going to be doing this twice, test fit, then final drop in.

Appreciate any advice

When I installed the 440 in my car I had the engine and hoist sitting at the front of the concrete lip, pushed the car up installed engine and transmission together slid underneath to install transmission cross member then pushed car back into the garage. Just Becareful if your driveway is slanted I blocked the hoist.

Good luck

Easier to line everything up from the front.

As you lower the hoist, the load moves away from it & engine bays are narrow side to side, so more room front to back.

Use two layers of 1/2" plywood at your 1" drop, easy-peasy.

Not you mention that an engine hoist coming in from the side has to maneuver around the front tire. Then how would you get the motor to shift backwards to go down between the firewall and the radiator support when each leg of the engine hoist is trapped on either side of the tire?

Check rental yards and or metal fab shop to loan or rent one.
Chain or elect hoist and leveler will make job easier

Thx for the replies, coming in from the front makes sense.
I have a HF lift, it worked well taking the 340 out, so should do that trick putting the 5.7 in.
My driveway has a little grade, and I'll have to deal with the 1" lip.
So I guess I'll have to round up some plywood and give it go.
