I'm getting close to installing my engine in my Dart and will need to look into getting a radiator. The engine is a 400/470 stroker with 727 and 3.73 gears and the car will be entirely street driven. I could use some recommendations on where to get a radiator as well as what type of radiator (copper/brass or aluminum) and what size I should consider. The car originally had a 22" radiator in it as it was an a.c. car. I would also like to have fittings for cooling lines for the trans. as I don't really want to use a trans. cooler unless I have to. I'm not really crazy about the look of aluminum radiators that look natural in color so if aluminum is the way to go, I'd like get a black one if they make them in blacken aluminum.

For a street car you want a big radiator and you need a shroud. A factory radiator for a BB Dart would be one thing to check out and then work your way from there.

If price is not that big of a concern, i am very happy with the Griffen aluminum read I put in my 68 b body. I got the direct replacement one and painted it black with radiator paint. . It looks close to stock without tank numbers. Brackets welded to rad and bolt exactly like stock. It has (2) 1-1/4” cooling rows and keeps my rb stroker cool on hot days. I use the factory shroud which bolts up exactly like stock. Very impressed with quality.

Use the corresponding 22" core and have the inlet/out setup for a big block. Then have a heavy duty high density 4 core put in it. 67-69 Big Block 383 core radiators (tanks w/straps) are big buck for a the stamped numbers.

This one was done by Glen Ray radiator. It doesn't have a shroud because the 68 Super Stock weren't delivered with one.

It's driven on the street often with not overhead issues and a 472 Hemi automatic.

I will look into the Griffen and Glen Ray radiators. I don't care if there are any numbers on it as the car is not original anyway but I will also look around for a factory big block radiator. I have a related cooling question as well. As far as the fan/clutch go, I was planning on using a Mopar Performance viscous fan kit I have in my collection of parts. It is the kit with the five blade fan. Will the five blade fan work well or should I go with a factory seven blade fan?

Here is another option for you.
I had them build a 4 row copper & brass High efficiency 22" for my 68 road runner . All mounting points were correct including the fan shroud. They offer alum. as well.

I don't think you'll have enough room for that clutch fan. The BB A body cars are usually really short of space unless you've made modifications. Have you ever had this car together or is this the first time? I used a 26 inch radiator in my Duster and I found room for a clutch fan, but I had to move a lot of stuff around.

I had mine custom made for my car. Included a shroud and 2 Derale electric fan. Keeps my street/strip car cooler on the street than my more stock street cars. I added -20 aluminum bungs for the upper and lower hoses and a -6 for the over flow.

No, never had this car together before. It was originally a 6 cyl./ac car. What fan/clutch combo was used on the 383 A-bodies?

just what exactly is "radiator" paint ?
i know you don't put on 5 coats of paint then 17 coats of clear, but other than a couple of thin coats to just get it covered, basic enamel from the dollar store works for me.
