Fellas, I have a rebuilt 727 that has been stored inside for about ten years, it was rebuilt and has never had fluid in it or installed

Should a freshen be in order or would it be just fine as is.

Thanks in advance Henry

“Inside”…. Like inside out of the heat and humidity?

I'm in Florida, it's been in a garage, not a shed, but yes maybe max 90* and typical humidity for ambient air.

If every part was coated with fluid like when I build one, then the deep internals will be ok if the visible internals are ok.

Pull the pan and take a look.

Chances are it will be fine.

I rebuilt one and didnt use it until 15 years later. Worked fine, no problems. Recently pulled pan to swap in a reverse manual valve body and everything looked normal..

Did any of you replace the seals? I have one under then bench for about 20 years because I sold the car it was for. Have wondered if it’d leak like a screen door.

I want my fair share

As much of a PITA they are to put in I'd go through it. If it's never had fluid it'll be a clean disassembly and since all you should be doing is double checking it won't take very long. I'd want to resoak the clutches at the very least.

when a moparts member "GOLDMEMBER" Jim said on my a999LU trans it is lube with trans greese on everything/fiber were soak in ATF on install. store it standing up on bell to keep front seal clean/plug both trans line fittings, install a tail shaft pug or yoke to seal from dirt/dust. good to sit for yrs till needed install new TC when installing for service.

he did my 727 to CRT-John Cope specs for the CRT VB with TF-II shift kit, greesed it/sealed it sat in my work shed for about 5-6 yrs and I installed it with a fesh TC and been bang gears daily for 50,000 miles now.

I would Indeed replace the front pump seal just insurance against seal leaks. that one sucks. the rest can be serviced in the car as needed. MAYBE do both of the shift shaft seals while on the bench.

FYI, I have pulled many a used JY trannys & trannys that have sat very long times. only had a couple that had internal seal issues, most troubles were mechanical I always open/clean/inspect filter/pan and pour fresh ATF inside letting drain down on the internals then button up the filter/pan. always start then in N so the pump fill TC & prime-lube itself right away and let it come up to temp 5-10 mins before running through he gears on it.

front pump seal and let it rip.

How long do you think seals set on a shelf before being used? No moisture inside, run it
