Yesterday I picked up an unused steel Mopar Performance 727 trans. pan at a swap meet. It is the one that adds one extra quart of fluid. It didn't come with a pick-up extension so I just figured being it only held one extra quart that it didn't need one. Just to be sure, I looked on a couple of websites that sell the pan and they show it having an extension included with it. I did some additional searching on the internet on the subject of the pan and I found posts that go both ways. Some people said when they bought the pan new it didn't come with an extension while others say theirs did. So, does anyone here know if I'll need an extension or should it be o.k. without? It is the MP pan P3690730.

It may hold more than an extra quart. In my opinion you can probably get away with not adding the extension, however I don't think you will realize the full benefit of the added capacity without it.

Like was already said. You can use it without one but you won't see a benefit.

The purpose of the deep pan is to put the filter deeper into the fluid so it doesn't suck air under extreme acceleration. Without the extension it is no difference. You may notice a small amount of fluid temp drop but I doubt much if any since the cooler reduces the temp not the fluid sitting in the pan.

Easy enough to make one.
