look the column to harness connector over carefully. this is a known problem area, and i have repaired this connector many times over the years.
most times the ignition switch itself is ok. the connector terminals get out of shape or fit poorly together, causing resistance, then heat, resulting in a bad connection at best and a melted connector at worse.

Yep....good place to start. You can also bypass the ignition switch. Thinking out loud here.... disconnect the blue & brown wire going into the ballast resistor from the ignition. Wherever those wires connected (1-prong or 2-prong), hook up a jumper wire directly to the batter positive post. Jump the starter relay yellow wire to the big hot wire on the starter relay (a screw drive works). If the engine starts, starter switch is bad. You basically just hot wired your own car.
