A buddy of mine has been searching for a mostly stock Mopar for a bit. He sent me this one and wa
wants me to go look at this one. I’m on the road now headed to ST Louis to race this weekend. I’m no expert on this kinda thing. Price seems high but it’s a dealer so that’s a given. Like to hear some thoughts on it.

Lotta mud in those quarters. $40k for a brown/brown column auto seems like a lot to me even without the bad bodywork.

It's curious that he saw the price and the photos of the underside, but still asked you to look at it.

Al They have some really nice cars there and a few they put lotto prices on waiting for that I always wanted 1 guy, but they also have a lot of perfumed pigs so look closely. Also Gateway motors is less than a mile from the track and you might fine something there.

iagree especially at 40K, not sure I'd even be in at 30
if you do look at it get it up on a rack and do some serious looking. Bet it needs a front end at a minimum and likely a lot more. look at the hottoms of the 1/4's as they usually get sloppy with the bondo finishing. While it's up in the air look at the sides from different angles against the lights. it may reveal sand scratches and other things not visible on the ground. One hack body guy told me years ago, below the kneecap is not so visible on the ground so you can get a little sloppier wink twocents

The pics DO make it appear to have filler in lower quarters but I think reflections and all make it difficult to tell and maybe it's just not perfectly straight and worth a look. It is crusty in places such as around the fender tag and spots underneath. The dash is far from perfect and the needles appear to be repainted (not a gauge rebuild by professional) and they look cheesy to me and possibly inaccurate now. But if I were looking for one and could go check it out in person or have it inspected. How many E55's are there out there now that aren't trash. Then possibly make offer. It's been for sale a longgg time.

To each his/her own on color and options. I really like the color combo and column shift auto. I think different tires would really change the look. Maybe some bigger rwl.

Facts are stubborn things.

Thanks for the replies gentleman. I have only seen the price and phone pictures so hard to tell much besides is fugly smile

If anyone knows of a nice stockish Mopar let me know. He has the coin for something decent obviously willing to go $40l for a brown Duster. He is not a “car guy” so just trying to help him out with a “bucket list” Mopar as he’s getting old smile

Two things I keep thinking; if that's really a bunch of filler in quarters, I could've done a better job than that so maybe it's not, and it's just lighting and reflection. And, this would look like a completely different car with some nice rwl tires.

Auto on the column and brown for 40K? At least it has the correct air cleaner!

Pass and keep looking...

If he wants a 1970 Duster 340 or similar 340 A body - why not post a Want to Buy listing on this site, the FABO site and other Mopar sites?

Personally, I wouldn’t purchase any car from a classic car dealer or a stealership. Buy a car from a trusted Moparts member or another trusted site. Lengthy ownership is a good trait to look for and someone that really knows the car inside and out. Piles of documentation is really helpful.

What he said. The ONLY cars that I buy from a dealership EVER are new (and then I cringe). Beyond that, I search out long time ownership vehicles and have done well in the past.

I would hate to buy from a classic car dealership too but things are getting hard to find and if I found exactly what I wanted and checked it thoroughly I might figure this might be my last chance.

A magnet on a thin soft cloth will tell you a lot. probably a bit late but I have one of these and have verified it to be very accurate. i bought it thinking it was a K-tel type gimmick but I have repeatedly verified it's accuracy when stripping cars down to metal.

I learned a long time ago every car should be based on its own merit, not by who is selling it.
For sale by private party doesn’t make it a good car, for sale by dealer doesn’t make it a bad car.
