anyone know the part# for a SB truck bellhousing with the A833OD 4 speed trans? has the large 5" retainer hole.

all of my bells with large retainer hole are for a NP435. I have a 72 B-body bell for the a833 4 speed but it has a smaller retainer hole.(last resort is to find a 833 4 speed with small retainer but they are crazy $ it seems)

I looked into a retainer/bearing swap but the large retainer bolt spacing seems to be a no go. as well as cutting retainer down/open bell hole up = no go.

maybe a bell from a 74-76 v8 car? A-body/F-body with the A833OD 4 speeds?

TIA

I had the retainer on mine cut from the large od (5.125?) to the middle od (4.8?) But, not enough to get to the small od (4.5?)

I will have to measure the 72 bell to see exactly what size hole it is.

Might want to see how much it would cost to open up the hole in your bell. Might be the cheapest way to go. Then if you ever want to go back to the smaller diameter trans, you can have a ring spacer made.

not enough meat to open it too 5.125 it is a tad over 4" looked at retainer again-bolt spacing does not allow it to be cut enough to work and between the 2 there is not enough meat to be removed from both to fit. = no worky.

I would have thought there would be more bells around with the large 5 1/4" hole. I would have thought with some of the F-body cars & v8 trucks/vans with 833OD there would be some around or someone would know a part# for one.

the bell I have has last 3 digits 732 and a 72 date 130 tooth flywheel with what looks like a 3 speed and the A833 4 speed bolt pattern.

looks like it is narrowing down to use mine for a core and spend 3000-4000 on a rebuilt B-body 4 speed with the pistol grip shifter.

I had one of these bells years ago that I got out of the junkyard for a friend but he didn't want it because it was for use with a hydraulic clutch slave.
Do you have a small block 833 parts trans laying around ?

no I do not have a 833 trans

I have a 82 d150 833OD trans with the 5.125 bearing retainer. it was a /6 833OD 4 speed truck (I have the /6 bell) I got a 72-B-body SB bell for 833 4 speed.

I replaced the 85 cab with a 91 cab so it has hydro clutch system. so a hydro bell or mech bell with the 5.125 hole will work for me.

or find a 70s B/E-body 833 trans for the 72 bell I have.

seems the correct bell housing for a 833OD truck is like HENS TEETH as I have not seen one around yet. I have yet to see a reasonable priced used B-body 4 speed as well.

but it does look like I can order a rebuilt one shipped to the door for 3-4 grand.

are you sure your hydro bell was 833 bolt pattern? I have not seen any v6-v8 hydro bells with the 833 bolt pattern. (not say they are not out there) I have a 88 v6 d100 hydro bell that has duel pattern but for a 435 4 speed or A535 5 speed.

oh one other option if I could find one out there is the A535 5 speed out of a v6-DAK before it went to a 9-bolt T15 5 speed.

My 87 D100 /6 833OD has a hydro clutch.
I might have an extra 833OD bell. I'll check.

Scratchn, I have an extra A535 (AX15) 5 speed out of a 90 V6 Dakota. There was a little vibration in 4th gear since I've had it, but the last couple of years It has slowly developed a slight vibration in 5th gear. That trans has around 180K miles on it, but hasn't been abused the last 12 years (around 90K miles). I replace it because I drive that vehicle a bunch of miles and had another trans here. I also have a flywheel, a bell with the master and slave, (I don't know how many bolts ae still here though) and a new in the box NAPA replacement clutch kit missing the throw out bearing, here. The shifter is still bolted to the trans, but the shift handle (it screws onto the shifter) was modified to fit the current ride. I'm a long way from you, but if your interested in all or any part of it, I can make a pretty sweet deal with you, you sure help a lot of others out here.
My Zip is 61032. Gene

Check with Passion Performance. He has rebuilt 23 spline 833s for $1450. Shipping would be pricey though I'm sure.
