One of my friends was trying to confirm the vin number on a 1968 coronet. The car was missing fender tag, engine, trans, interior. Still have the original Vin in the dash frame. Cowl, radiator support and trunk are present but have different number than the tag. If I remember correctly, the only numbers that would match is the vin and fender tag? Need some help with this since the car is not near enough for me to inspect it.

The number your friend needs in on the missing fender tag lower right of the tag if I not mistaken............and I think on a broadcast sheet or sales order???

Edit: just read your other thread about the Charger clip to a Coronet..........why would this question of "numbers" even matter shruggy shruggy

On 68's vin is on dash, paperwork, and likely on original engine and trans top center where engine mates to trans.. Some early cars did not have eng/trans stamped.
The so number is on the fender tag, rad core support and trunk rail, and paperwork except title.
If you have a title and a dash that matches, that's all he'll have. Then it's look closely at the dash vin plate and rivets.

because in our state we have to have vehicles verified to be issued titles. They have a pink slip from out of state, so the car will need inspection by DMV/CHP.

I think 1968 vin is not on the body parts, or is it? I don't believe the vin number that is on the dash is the same as the numbers on the body and that changed in 69'?

Correct, as I mentioned in my post/reply above. The numbers on the radiator support and trunk drip rail match the bottom line, far right numbers of the fender tag.

Correct: vin is not on 68 sheet metal
Recommend making dmv appt as they are more likely to focus on numbers.
Recommend not investing much until after transfer.
