All the doomsayers here will now tell you it is not numbers matching, DAMHIK! I have seen several cars with either no core support stamp or trunk stamp, usually will have one or the other, never seen one with no stamps 69-up. It may be so light you won't see it, or they might have left it off. Some are so faint that you need to take the rail down to bare metal and still use an led light to see it!

What you were told was that someone wanting to spend numbers matching money on a vehicle would pass on one without a vin stamp on the core support. What you imagined I can't say.

I've looked over the entire trunk lip by now but really, the focus was on the driver's side. I've scraped, wire-brushed and finally sanded weatherstrip adhesive and paint off but all I can see is an obscure part number. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow when I get back to the garage. I don't know what may have been done before '96 as far as quarter panel replacement goes. The current quarter panel isn't in great shape so if it is a replacement, it didn't hold up well. Also, it doesn't look replaced - undercoating looks original, etc. Thanks for the feedback.

My early production (sold new in Nov. of 1968) 1969 Dart GTS 383 car has the sequence number stamped on the trunk lid where your looking, it has the sequence stamped upside down on the radiator core support also, not the complete VIN numbers I bought the car the first time in 1991 and bought it back in 2009 or so after selling it in 2002 that car came with one major factory stamping error new from the factory that I know of, it is on the dash VIN TAG, the 2 or 3 is directly stamped over the other number in the middle of where they both should not be my message is the factory is operated by humans and they do MAKE MISTAKES now and then

There are really only a few choices here:
1) Never was stamped 2) Was replaced with OEM parts
If it was a component from another car, one would think that would have been stamped with that car's ID.

Will try to post a pic of the only number stamping I could find on the left side trunk lip. I believe the number is 2838511. A similar number, 2838510, is stamped on the passenger side. You're close to finding it if it's there which I'm betting it is. Go right above the part number stamp and a little forward or to your photo's right (between the white lines) and remove a lot or most of the paint. (you can just see the number 2838511 stamped from underneath on my Y4 A12 photo below my trunk lip number so you're in the right church just in the wrong pew)

As said, things were loose back then and mistakes were made, but there seems to be a very faint ghost of something visible in the picture. Hard to tell since pictures get a pixelated appearance when zoomed, but this is where my '69 GTX number is located relative to the part number stamp. A9 (space) 127XXX.
It appears if a little more paint was removed yours might be visible enough to make it legible. It's pretty faint but looks like there might be something there. You just need to focus on the lip instead of the spot inside of the lip….

I think or betting it's there............I did a little photoshopping on his photo and I swear I could almost see a character or two up above where my stamping is I have a long story about Calvin Smith's A12 Super Bee at the Nat's when it was first ever judged. The judges couldn't read the radiator support numbers so the told Calvin's friend to find the trunk lip numbers and they won't take points away. I was sitting with Calvin at the time when the friend came over to explain he needed to search for the trunk lip numbers where the judges told him he would find them on the RIGHT SIDE trunk weatherstrip lip toward the right front. I had a tracing of my A12 trunk lip with me and told Calvin and his friend that the numbers are on the LEFT side two thirds of the way back and near that part number. Calvin told his friend to listen to me and we went over and peeled the weatherstrip off and the friend pulled out his pocketknife and just then two judges came back. Both started to tell the friend "You're in the wrong place, it's on the RIGHT" The friend looks at me and I assured him where to scrape and that whatever paint he scrapes off will be covered by the weatherstrip so no one will see it. He starts scrapping as the judges shake their heads and then the "A" appears. He scrapes the paint off of the rest of the characters and doesn't lose any points.........................and goes on to be the top car for the year by only one point. I always felt that Calvin owed me at least a beer for that win Fast forward to when the owner that bought Calvin's A12 at BJ posted it for sale and included the trunk lip number photo where no one ever painted the scraped of paint from that day at the Nat's. My story on Calvin Smith's A12 Super Bee "can't be true unless you (me) have photos" well ........with the judges standing next to Calvin's friend Vic What caused something like this to happen? I couldn't even imagine telling someone whose car I was judging that they had to pull up the weatherstripping AND scrape off the paint to check a number ?
running up my post count some more .
