Did a quick search, didn't see much, So figured I'd ask....
Got a street 440, flat tops are .100 in the hole. Short block is used, but in good shape. Small unknown cam, 906's and factory iron 4bbl coming out/off,
Hughes HUG SEH3642BL-8 hydraulic flat tappet going in, OOTB stealth's and an aluminum Eddy 4bbl manifold.
The 440 source head gaskets (.051) are going to put me at 8.75:1 cr. I'd like to get into the .032-.027 range thickness, should net me a 9.07-9.15 cr.
Will the Cometic MLS seal on a used deck for a street engine?
Any thickness or type I should avoid?

Interesting…..I was there 17 years ago. I ended up putting out of the box Stealths on a used short block with Cometic MLS gaskets. The .027 thickness in order to get quench as my pistons are only .017 in the hole.
But my short block had previously been rebuilt and the deck surface looked and felt pretty darn smooth so I risked it. They are fine to this day. I did take the three sheets of gaskets apart and sprayed all sides with copper coat.
They do not recommend cosmetics unless a very smooth surface is present.

i have used the stock style steel shim head gaskets on iron block and heads with the stock machine work with no problems using 2 or 3 light coats of Copper Coat on both sides of those gaskets up
I've also used aluminum paint when I was out of copper coat and couldn't go buy another can of it do to the parts stores being close at night and I needed whistling, I wanted to, to go racing the next morning up shruggy

I agree.
Just for overkill I would put Permatex Copper coat head gasket sealant on it. And never look back (at that low CR).
