I built one for a friend last year. I got the crank and rods from 440 source. Made it a 457 3.900 stroke and .060 over and Trick Flow 240 heads. He hasn't cut it loose yet. It's in a 68 Plymouth station wagon it's a great combo. Just be careful and don't put too much cam in it for the street . His cam is about .560 lift and around 240 duration, flat tappet hydraulic. From Hughes. Nasty!

Any time you improve the air and fuel amount into the motor it should go faster: up
Same thing on making the motor bigger up

Icon makes a piston for the 4.15 crank, might as well go for more cubes. They keep changing their site and making it worse and worse, else I would give you the part number. The same piston is available from 440 source. S/F..Ken M

You might want to set a head on your block with the bigger valves in it first to make sure those valves will work on the smaller 4.250 or 4.280 bore without hitting the cylinder walls scope
Way better to be safe now than wish you had checked before having the heads modified with the bigger valves twocents scope
i need to do the same thing on my 1969 dart GTS 383 motor after I have it bored to find out what size it will clean up at luck Luckily I have two sets of 906 heads to pick from, one with stock size valves and one with the bigger 2.14 and 1.81 valves luck

Depends on the core shift of the individual heads.

Also keep in mind that the addition of the bigger valves does nothing for performance unless the head is ported accordingly. The port will only move so much air, despite the valve size.

yes i know..was thinking since i,m upping the cubes and have 2.14 1.81 new vales laying around here... wih the small cam it would be fine..still keep the velocity up a

nd obv the heads would be be blended to support any work..

I built one for a friend last year, 438" with a 3.75" crank, 1969 383 block. The rotating assembly and heads were 440 Source. Very mild combo Hughes 228/232 @ .050" hydraulic cam, low deck Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 and small dyno headers. It made around 450 hp and 475 lb. ft of torque and even went to 6,000 rpm. Built to cruise and have good vacuum for power brakes. The dyno headers probably cost a few HP so he went with 1 7/8" TTi headers for when it goes in the car.

Not terribly expensive to build. We ran the cost both ways and turned to be only slightly more than a full rebuild with reconditioned, stock-stroke parts.

I think the old Max Wedges had notches in the bore to clear the big valves. Same bore size as 383 0n the 426. Something to think about. work

I've had a lot of steel 440 cranks cut down on the mains to fit the B blocks and had the rod throw offset ground down to 2.20 BB Chevy rod size to make a cheap stroker years ago and even now up
I have two ocranks done for the 400 B blocks and one for a RB block 440 to make a 468 to 471 C.I. depending on where the bore size ends up being on the 440 block wrench
