I don't think that I've ever seen a working PS pump that didn't have 1/8"+ of end play. Totally normal and probably necessary for some reason.

When I rebuilt my leaking Saginaw years ago I worried about the same thing. I put it in and it ran perfectly for years. Don't call it "slop"--call it a "self-aligning pulley" if it makes you feel better...
