Hi Everybody,

I kind of went on a shopping spree at one of my local AutoZone's a couple days ago on Monday, and of course I left with more stuff than I went in for. I bought Mopar t-shirts and an American flag t-shirt that I really liked for only $10.00 each, a beer hat for a beer that I actually drink, and what I went in for which was more Meguiars 105 Compound and more VHT gloss white engine paint. While I was getting my engine paint I noticed this VHT gloss clear engine enamel stuff next to my engine paint on the shelve in my picture below, and was debating on getting it for when I eventually paint an engine on one of my tractor projects to make it a bit shinier OR maybe to re-repaint another engine on another one of my tractors. Has anyone used it?, is it any good?, or should I just stay away from it and not get it?

Any opinions, advice, and help is always much appreciated.

Thanks.

I've had very good results with VHT spray bombs. Good stuff, but make sure it won't lift the paint like a paint remover on previously painted stuff.

I used it in some bare stuff so it wouldn’t rust, works nice and is glossy.

Might as well try it. Keep in mind spray cans do not have the hardeners that the mixed/spray gun stuff has so does not cure "hard." There is a two part disposable aerosol clear coat called SprayMax2k. Its the real deal- you puncture an internal bladder and then shake the can mixing the hardener with the clear. Then you must use the can within several hours or it cures in the can. HOWEVER..... in the motorcycle world users have found out it yellows when exposed to heat.

I can't walk by a coin operated candy vending machine without spending at least a buck.

Years ago I painted a high temp clear over an aluminum intake manifold that I first painted silver. Looked super for a few months and then the clear slowly turned yellow after I started to log miles on it (daily driver). I can't remember the paint brand, but think it was Duplicolor since that is what the NAPA stores here sell.

Engine enamel has different resins as opposed the standard spray paint. It stands up to a lot of abuse and wears hard. Gloss retention is another thing. Looks good on an engine block but somewhere in the semi gloss satin range within a year of sunlight.

single stage automotive paint with hardener works well, and the colors are unlimited.
you can get them put into spray cans with a button you push to release the hardener, then shake the $hit out of them to mix, then spray away.
unfortunately, if there is any left in the can, it won't last long, so have a bracket or two ready you can spray with what remains in the can.
