Seams a lot of stuff from Mr. Gasket is made overseas. I used a Milodon stat. I guess it could be made overseas too, but it seams to work really well. Opens right at 180.

Yes they do flow more than stock and they are balanced so they work better at high rpms than the stock ones.

I'm not sure if this is an RV-specific thing, but my 440-3 runs at least 20 deg. cooler with a skirted Mr. Gasket thermostat (#4367) which is essentially what is pictured on the stock air cleaner. With that said, I have had two of them come apart so far in less than 12K miles...the bottom portion separating from the top at the pressed brass mounting point. If you are running one of these inthe summer and the temp suddenly climbs to 220+, or you can't seem to warm the engine up at all in winter it's time to check for a broken Mr. Gasket!

that seems like a lot for just a t-stat. was the old one the same opening temp as the mr gasket. if so im sold.

I have lost all confidence in anything "Mr Gasket" makes. They have a major quality control problem.

They are junk, I' had one go bad in less than 500 miles, car would always run 180/190 then one cool night it was running around 220. took out the stat and tested it in pan of water with a probe, did not open at 212.

Is there a part number for the Milodon skirted 180 deg. thermostat? Or did I misinterpret and the Milodon is not skirted? Not asking out of laziness... I've looked for other brands besides Mr. G but struck out. Thanks!

I've run the Mr Gasket 180 stat without problem... around 3 years and 5k miles. I've heard of the QC problems but haven't experienced them.

What I was after was the "balance". I'm running a high volume pump with anti cavitation plate slightly overdriven. I wanted to make sure the very high flow at high RPM didn't move the stat plate. For $5 or $10 extra its cheap insurance.

Don't know why you would want to over-drive it? The restriction is still gonna be the stat, even with the hi volume unit. The last 5 purchases I have made with the Mr Gasket brand on the product - 3 ether didn't fit or were missing parts. Most recent ( a month ago )was a sb gasket set. It was missing one pan rail gasket.

I wasn't really worried about the restriction. I was worried about the fast stream of water hitting the plate on a conventional thermostat and overpowering the actuating mechanism making the stat non functional.

My setup wound up about 7% overdriven by pulley choice and avaialbility. The cooling system works great even at idle on a 95 deg day with AC on or blasts to 6000 RPM. I guess I could try to find some different pulley's and experiment with slower WP and fan speeds but its not high on my list of projects and I'd likley loose cooling performance at idle with the AC.

I've never seen or heard of that happening - enough pressure to overpower the stat, but I suppose it's a possibility. I was think more along the lines of lost HP.

It's probably the same one as you have.
