Never said leaf springs were a waste. I said leaf springs used with ladder bars was a waste. Why? They are more complicated, heavier, and more expensive than coil overs.

Pick a side and go with it (ladder bar with coil over, or leaf spring with Caltrac).

Leaf spring floaters can be heavy, the last car I had with them I converted over to Caltracs instead.

A 70-71 Pro Stock Challenger had a pinion snubber and leaf springs.

If you are relying on a pinion snubber for traction on a race car you just haven't ripped out a sprague or u joint yet.

I'm not recommending pinion snubbers for modern race cars.

He was talking about 4 links and ladders bars while talking about a period correct (I assume) early 70s Pro Stock car, I was just telling him what was correct for that era. I wouldn't recommend anything in common use in 1970 for use today.

Although some of the cheating tricks were clever.

Nice.

A person could take that idea a few steps further, borrowing a few ideas from the RMS rear suspension.

Replace the leaf spring with a lower link from the housing spring perch to the front spring mount. You could likely use the brackets you have there. Add an upper crossmember, shock mounts on the housing and some coilovers. Housing location device (lateral link would be easy) with the parallel 4 link. Or you could do a non-parellel design with different upper mounts.

We have done this in the past on OE floors & framerails restomod type deals with maybe the inner wheel tub moved in. Works well. And you get the advantages of a 4 link style suspension - which are more than just "more adjustable".

Nice Bob! It's about time someone resurrected the idea. Is this something you did recently?

Cmcallister: I have toyed with the same idea. I could run the car on leafs or coil-overs.

HardcoreB: Yes, on my current 63 Dodge.
